She's our head of state that spent a total of what, 30 days in our country during her 70 year reign? Not sure many of us have amusing anecdotes or fond memories of her.

I was joking, although talking about passports is about as uninteresting as discussing the monarchy.
I just got an alert that the corgis will stay with Prince Andrew. Well, thank god that’s settled and I was informed as soon as humanly possible.

it wouldn't surprise me to get an annual holiday. We have Victoria day and QEII had a significant impact on several generations of the Commonwealth.

We have literally only had 2 Monarchs since confederation. I doub't anyone is arguing we should have a holiday for Every Monarch since Henry VIII in 1400's

It may seem that way, but certainly not literally - it was Queen Victoria during confederation, and it didn't go straight from Queen Victoria to QEII. There's a couple Georges and Edwards in between them.

As someone who used to work at the Courthouse, there will be definitely a lot of little changes like this that will be fun to see how long it takes to change old habits.

The sheriff in the court I was in this morning got ribbed pretty hard at the first break for saying "All rise, the Provincial Court of Nova Scotia is now open in honor of her majesty the Queen"
So, has the capital of Saskatchewan changed its name to Rex yet?

I have no immediate need to protest the monarchy or the UK system of governance.
However, I am very disturbed by a system that allows police overreach to arrest those that do protest.
People are being arrested for the most benign forms of protest i.e. just standing around with a sign, or for what they say.
Now, you can make an argument that coul, depending on the situation, be in bad taste, but we either have a democratic right to free speech and assembly or we don’t.

I agree in part... But I can say that anyone protesting a funeral or a funeral procession is the ####### in the situation. Yelling at someone whose mother just died is just a bad thing to do no matter the circumstances.
I don't really think that Charles will be a great monarch (whatever that is in a modern, educated society)and I think that it will eventually lead to the establishment of Republics in many Commonwealth nations but give him a bit of time to grieve.

I agree that anyone yelling at a funeral cortège or at someone whose mother just died is beyond the Pale. I understand someone has been arrested for heckling Andrew as he followed his mother’s coffin. But that isn’t what my post was about.
But arresting someone for holding a placard or expressing a viewpoint peaceably nowhere near any of the family is…disturbing.
