That inning could have gone a lot worse, but Berrios bared down and got out of it with a 3 run lead intact. Still not a good inning but at least not a total meltdown.

Keeping that inning to a trickle of damage rather than a flood was a big victory. That’s what starters are supposed to do.

The contact play often works but this time it was hit so directly to the shortstop that it was doomed.

For the contact play: If the ball made the shortstop take a couple of steps to the left or right, it would have put them in a tough spot…either throw to first to get the easy out and allow a run or make a perfect throw home and risk giving up a run and a single if it doesn’t work out.

I like the aggressive play. Too bad it didn’t work out.
