I *think* it was a game in Detroit. He and Brent were separately being interviewed after a skate. Brent was saying how the team has to play together and everyone has to commit to team defense. Iginla was basically saying he’s not interested and that someone on the team has to score.

They were clearly talking about each other.

Also, y’all confusing good Flames players with a person’s favourites. Iginla was a top 5 Flame player but I disliked him - he’s certainly not a favorite of mine.

 Sorry.
 |
In Jarome’s defence, Brent had no idea how to coach this team. His systems were pure east-west hockey and our defensive coverage was a nightmare for any sort of transition game. We finished 2nd last in the league for GF in 2009-10 after finishing 8th overall the year before.

Plus that team was dealing with all the Phaneuf drama which Iginla was right in the centre of. I give Iggy a pass for not being his best self that year after seeing everything he worked for burning around him, especially as the Keenan years had felt like they were on the precipice of success.

Of course, I could make a list of Flames who subsequently were just no good:

Smith, Russell, Dowd, Unger, Jalonen, Neal and (I suppose) Brossoit.

And players who became much better: Lucic, Talbot, Staios, Glencross, Smid, Steve Smith
 |
Is it a coincidence that all that became better were ex Oilers?

 Least

 1. Dennis Wideman (Useless, hit an official, put a target on our back for the reffs, got the province, city and team sued and charged us money for all of that. #### him)
 2. Tim Erixon (####ed us after the draft.)
 3. Johnny Gaudreau (Self Explanatory)
 4. Mark Giordano (Most overrated player we've ever had, I think he had more to do with our lackluster performance then anything else, verified by our near instant rebound on his leave, terrible captain, I'm sure he's a great guy though)
--This is where it turns into more on-ice grievances--
 5. Rene Bourque (Injured and toxic in the locker room)
 6. Troy Brouwer (Useless On Ice for us.)
 7. Dion Phaneuf (Locker room Cancer, Defensive liability)
 8. Anton Babchuk (90% of the time a healthy scratch, useless)
 9. Scott Staios (Literal Pylon)
 10. Martin St. Louis (Tampa Bay Connection)

Dishonourable Mention: Gary Leeman and Rico Fata, before my time but hurt the franchise badly

Don’t like the way Johnny left. I blame it 50/50 between him and Treliving but without a doubt the most exciting player ever worn a Flames uniform, only arguable with Iggy
St Louis was not a Flames long enough to like or dislike

IMO, Theoren Fleury deserves that designation.

Besides Brathwaite, that's a nice goons list from the Flames. I'm surprised you don't have Nick Fotio and Tim Hunter in there.

Kent may have a few magical games but he disappeared frequently.

Overall, Johnny had him beat easily

That's why they called him "the Magic Man" - he'd vanish without a trace!

I agree his consistency (or lack thereof) was maddening, but when he was on he was ON. Shame he had such a bad work ethic.
