I don't have any doubts that that DNL fellow is a Avs or Flames fan looking for maximum reaction, because frankly as dumb as some Oiler fans are, nobody is that dumb.

I know numerous Oilers fans that are that dumb….. you shouldn’t generalize…. Hahahaha. I have heard numerous similar statements from them, it’s ridiculous.

Have you ventured to HF Oilers? Some of them are that dumb. This is an Oilers fan take on the Tkachuk trade.
Quote:
Not sure how any Flames fans could be that excited about the trade. I would have rather traded for a Kyrou and a pick. Hell, even straight across if need be. At least he's cost-controlled, young and productive (including in the playoffs). Trade is a loss in any way except selling copium to a fairweather fanbase.
|
Kyrou straight across for Tkachuk would be better than Huberdeau, Weegar, Schwindt, and a 2025 1st round pick. The trade was a loss in every way.

So the argument being that elite players are not worth acquiring once they hit their late 20s because you need to sign them to long expensive deals that end in their mid 30s?
I wonder if they have the same take on their own elite talent that's about to hit their late 20s? Mostly worthless. Better to not sign them, rather have kyrou, etc.

That's just beyond dumb! Where are they going to trade Tkachuk to for Kyrou? St Louis wasn't offering Kyrou! They are just spewing garbage for the sake of spewing something.

Let's play a game called Oilers you ####ing hate.
I'll start. I hate Derek Ryan, and for no good reason. He isn't that good, I am glad he left the Flames. Not sure what it is, but #### that guy.

The goalposts moved from the trade being bad because they received only one year of Huberdeau to the deal being bad because they signed him long term. I guess they are just going to let McDavid and Draisaitl walk at the end of their current deals because they will be worthless on their next deal. Funny thing is that they likely won't have any choice as one or likely both are gone when at the end of their deals. I wonder if they will do what the Flames did with Gaudreau and keep them on the last year in hopes of re-signing or trade them one year early. Would get a massive deal for McDavid but I'm sure the Oilers would find a way to botch the return.

In the heyday of "Building something Special" and "Here come the Oilers" I remember Oil fans talking so much #### about it's not even a question of if, but how many. Or saying things like it's just math; you have that many high picks = success. The show "Oil Change" really was state propaganda, perfected. They ALL bought in.
No doubt in my mind that Analytics twitter fan is still riding high from the west final appearance truly in his bones believes the Oil are the best team in the world. The Avs were just a blip, and Makar isn't even that good.

Draisaitl and McDavid next deal going to be interesting. Right now, McDavid makes $4M more than Draisaitl. So, if this ratio remains the same, Draisaitl asks for $10.5M and McDavid will be $15M, that's $25M for 2 players. May be Draisaitl will ask for $12M.

If the Oilers or Leafs do not have significant success in the next 2-3 years they will be in trouble of keeping their stars. Is Matthews signing his massive extension in Toronto if they still haven’t won a round of playoffs? They have 2 years to figure it out and just took a massive risk with Murray as their goalie. Draisaitl got a contract that looked like an overpay at first glance but has become a massive underpay. If Edmonton is not winning cups why would he stay in that dump for anything more than a huge payday that would be higher than McDavid’s current cap hit. McDavidsy take the same or more money but why would he stay if the Oilers haven’t won anything?

Oiler fan reading this: So you're saying they'll both take matching 8x8 deals to help the Oilers win because they absolutely love Edmonton.

Draisaitl is 3 years away from UFA, I think in 3 years there will be a decent increase in the cap as the league will be recovered from the Covid seasons. Draisaitl will be well north of 10M. I don't think they will re-sign him and put all their eggs into the McDavid basket the following year.

I think its pretty a pretty safe bet that Matthews walks. I think the Coyotes are getting the pieces to develop and then make Matthews a massive offer to come back to his home town and I think he will take it.
Both Draisaitl and McDavid will want to be the highest paid players in the league at their times or resigning. It will not be possible to keep them both. And honestly if the keep scoring like they do (regardless that they have no interest in being a team player or playing defense), they likely will get paid as such.
Draisaitl comes off one year after Matthews and would be a nice addition to the Leafs to help them keep Marner. Panarin comes off the books for the NYR same year as McDavid is a UFA, they will make him the highest paid player in the league and his endorsements would be through the roof. Neither Draisaitl or McDavid are staying in Edmonton. If Edmonton is smart, which they are not, they would move Draisaitl ahead of his contract expiring and go all in on McDavid and support him with good players.
The comedy up there writes itself.....

I am sure oiler fans will expect them both to accept wild home town discounts.

I would be genuinely surprised if McDavid or Draisatl were to be a career Oilers, but that is a looonng ways off.

It is and it isn't. They have put all their chips in on this core. They have no upcoming space to sign any impactful forwards or defenseman in the window of Draisaitls or McDavid's contracts expiring. If they faulter the next two seasons, which is fair to expect, they have to know those guys are leaving. It would be good asset management, as we experienced with Gaudreau, to offload Draisaitl the summer of 2024 to maximize his return to get assets and future considerations to go all in with McDavid.
After this year they have enough space to resign Bouchard, and re-up Broberg and Skinner if they have decent years. That is really it.

Kailer Yamamoto. Little guy that plays cheap and runs off the ice right after. Plus, I am not sure there is a bigger mamma’s boy name in the world than Kailer.
