Can't agree with you. Excellent two way player, obviously, but maybe we have different ideas about what a "superstar" is, which I consider "consensus top 15 player in the league". ROR has never been at that level, and I don't think Huberdeau has either - Barkov, sure.

It's coming across like I think Huberdeau sucks. I really don't. I think he is a top tier first line winger and I wouldn't be surprised if he gets 100+ points next year even though it's going to be an adjustment to new teammates and a new and very different system. It's just a lot of money for a very long time and I don't think it's going to work out. I guess we'll see.

I mean if they win the cup in year 1 it basically doesn't matter, it's an automatic success in that case and that's not impossible or anything.

On every team Canada World Cup Mock Roster (usually on the 1st line)

outscored everyone not named McDavid (tied Gaudreau who turned down this deal)

"not a superstar"

I guess the league has one superstar

Another positive of this signing is we have a nine-year reprieve from hearing, "you can't win the Cup without a top-3 pick on your roster."

shocked lol,

not sure how you can say the 2nd leading scorer in the league isn't a top 15 player but whatever...

I am glad the Flames are going with the need stars plan as opposed to moneyball you seem to be proposing.

Look at the last 10 champs...Blues are the closest you can find (outlier) and ROR was still a 7.5M PPG player

Huberdeau is gonna be named Captain, I can feel it in me bones.

Just seems right.

Because "best player in the league" is a) not determined by the scoring race and b) certainly isn't fickle enough to be based on what happens in a single year.

If I wanted to win one hockey game tomorrow, there are more than 15 guys I'd take before I'd take Huberdeau. I think he's definitely top 10 if we're just talking about wingers, but not top 5, and that's the least valuable position.

I'm excited for Huberdeau and the Flames. I for one am ecstatic with how this summer has turned out (and its still turning!!!).

I'm excited to see how Huberdeau works with his new team. JH has been a top 10 scorer in the league over the last 5 years and yet some people here don't equate him as a top superstar.

I just can't help but think about Yzerman and his career trajectory. Huberdeau has the hockey skills and IQ to thrive under Sutter defensively which has been pointed out as a potential weakness. I don't know how it will all turn out but the overall potential with Lindholm and Huberdeau then Backs shutting teams down is terrific.

Need to make that move to bolster the forward group and push the chips in here.

Lucic is very deal-able now.

Bring in a 2C or top six RW and we could be in a really good spot. The defence is top 5 in the league with the Weegar addition and Markstrom is Markstrom if we're not playing Edmonton.
Lucic is going nowhere. Sutter loves him. He loves the team

And more importantly, he took one for the team. He is only leaving if he wants to

They haven't. Never will. Most teams have won with breakdowns, good drafting, and those perfect filler pieces while being cap teams. Drafting top players has been the biggest part.

Everyone is missing a key part of this deal. Huby is from Saint-JErome, Quebec, which is now being re-named Saint-JArome to comply with the Flames' terms of the deal.

Any one putting up 1.2 PPG over the last 4 seasons is a current top 15 player in the league.

He didn't just have a flash in the pan season. He's been over a PPG year to year for a while now. Gaudreau was well under a couple times in the same period of time. Huberdeau is much more consistent.

And consistency in output/production is the mark of superstars.

"Star" players are probably more defined by that up and down play.

Flames drafted a top player. They traded him for a better one.

Interesting given that Henrik was the playmaker.

Not a top 5 winger? Kucherov, and who else? Don’t say Gaudreau, because Huberdeau has been far more consistently productive. Also more productive than Rantanen, Tkachuk, Marner. Kane in the past but not now. Stone?
