I really don't think Brad f'd around with the last two. A contract takes two parties to want to sign.

He will never sign here. It isn't a Canadian thing, it's a weather thing for Phil. I can't remember if it was the athletic or somewhere but I read his priority in location is year round nice weather now.

To be honest, Flying a player out for a day for a media availability and a photo opp is a waste of resources and time. Player probably doesn’t want to do it, and it really doesn’t matter to the average fan, we’re watching it on a screen anyway, not like we get to shake his hand.

Yeah, though an 8 team list might be 50-50 undesirable vs strategic like that. So Bottom 4 desirable teams (Winnipeg/Buffalo/Ottawa/Seattle) and then 4 that would really want you. And yes, if you predicted Gaudreau re-signing, Calgary’s not a big concern.
Only reason they wouldn’t sign this summer is if they never really want to be here

There are a dozen reasons why either player might not be in a rush to sign his (likely last) long term contract with a team for whom he has never played.
