Interesting reading through Panther fans (HF board) reaction to trade.

Source: https://forums.hfboards.com/threads/...orida.2893687/

Huberdeau soft/not 200 ft player and disappears in playoffs. Also won't sign for less than 10.5 per year.

Weegar prone to terrible gaffes. Overrated.

Majority of Panther fans like the deal for Panthers given player control through prime.

Be interesting if both moved this off-season or they let Sutter have a go at them to see what they could be.

BT should keep wheeling and dealing. Its his best skill. Hamonic trade aside.

But suspect both will be in camp and will run with them for at least part of regular season.

They haven't played under Sutter.

They were playing under who - Andrew Brunette - since Q stepped down? A rookie. Not exactly someone who would enforce accountability and 200 foot x's and o's of the game.

I really think Tkachuk regresses in production down in FLA and his skating will get no better.

I think the book on Huberdeau is that he is soft, but I don’t agree with that. Anytime I have watched him, I was surprised that he actually has a bit of an edge to him. I don’t think he is nearly as soft as people think.

The disappearing in the playoffs thing is a little off too. He didn’t have a great playoffs this year, with 1 goal and 5 points in 10 games. The year before though he had 10 points in 6 games, and has 21 points in 26 playoff games for his career. So I don’t know that the whole disappearing in the playoffs thing is entirely fair either.

It seems like when people were trying to spin the Phaneuf deal as okay for the Flames. Florida got a great player and the Flames got two. Only fans who are calling it bad are Canucks, Oilers, Blues, and Panthers fans and most of their argument is the Flames will left both walk to UFA.

I look forward to seeing Huberdeau with a chip on his shoulder and something to prove.

The thing with a smaller market team is that when you want to win you have to be extremely aggressive. Most people posting are taking the conserve and add draft pick approach. To me as a non-premier market, you can't be winning and building the asset base at the same time. You either go for it all in...or you need to sell hard and accumulate.

Flames are in a bit of a tweener spot here. They had a strong team last year and a top level coach. Really next summer when you have guys like Backlund, Lindholm, Taffoli, Tanev, Hanifan all due new contracts in a year...that's when you start the hard sell and accumulation of new assets. But it's debatable if the team as it is today is good enough to do more than just make the playoffs. If they could add another top line forward somehow, but that will be tough as they are tight on cap space now.

He's free to speak. People are also free to react to that speech. Freedom of speech doesn't mean and has never meant that all speech comes without consequences.

Conspiracy theories are not political views.

I hear what you’re saying, but another perspective would be that you need to keep developing internal solutions since you aren’t getting Spezza or Thornton or Perry to come here for league min. Shortcuts almost always backfire.

Trades are measured after a season or more. Right now Treliving is getting credit for taking a massive swing and connecting and we are all on our feet hoping the ball stays fair and clears the wall. But it's where the ball eventually ends up that is going to be remembered.

I disagree. This is win win no matter how you slice it provided the two new members are not walked to free agency for nothing.

Very few GMs would be able to pull this sort of value in return with their backs against the wall, for a player who expresses their desire to move on. Another entry into the 'Things He Does Well', which is why I don't think he will be fired, nor should he be.
