A Mark Stone type guy rather than a Jarome Iginla.

Tkachuk has definitely been hyped by a bunch of media guys who rarely watch him play. He has elite vision and hands, and is great along the boards and down low. But he doesn’t hit much anymore, hasn’t ever stepped up with clutch play in the playoffs, and his running around takes himself out of the game as often as it takes the opposition off theirs. He doesn’t have the composure or the consistent intensity to be the player his cheerleaders think he is.

I grew up a huge Theo Fleury fan, but I go on twitter, and see his ranting and raving a lot, which has made him sour on me a bit. I know he is very anti-Trudeau, very conservative. But I don't follow politics nearly as much as he does, so I can't condemn or praise him for what he is doing. I kind of tuned him out on twitter. I do know he has a lot of followers, but a lot of enemies too.
I know from a PR standpoint the Flames will never retire his number.
So I think if Huberdeau decides to sign long term, why not give him the #14?

Doubtful he wants it
Nothing good comes from that. He doesn’t need to prove some point on behalf of anyone else in the franchise

That NHL 22 sim engine is laughably bad.

Wow... go away for the weekend and come back to see this happened! I thought for sure this would drag into August, but I'm glad it didn't.
I was fully on the re-build train as well, but that was when I thought the return would be for picks/prospects/young players. No idea a Huberdeau-centred package was even on the table.
This is a great trade by BT. For Tkachuk who wasn't going to sign, to get a elite LW, top-pairing D, good prospect and a 1st round pick.... crazy.
Hopefully Huberdeau and Weegar sign extensions, but if they don't/aren't willing, then trade them this summer and collect more picks + prospects. Yes, BT kicked the "can down the road", but he can still turn them into more assets.
Being a fan is much more fun & interesting when you're battling for the division/playoff spot, instead of draft position.

I saw for a brief second on a FB post that Huberdeau isn't happy about the trade to Calgary. I didn't bother clicking the link cuz I figured it was click bait. It's most likely not real.
Going to be tough to get players to come after what's just transpired the last week or so.

Players want to win and compete. If anything, Treliving sent a message that the Flames aren’t tanking and will be pushing for playoffs and championships. That’s not going to dissuade players. If Tkachuk was traded for picks and prospects, it would turn players away, because as interested as fans might be in the first overall pick, most players want to be in a situation where they can succeed.

If you read the articles, it seems he is upset with the Panthers, not being traded to the Flames. He was expecting a contract extension but talks never happened and then he was traded. Sounds like he was blindsided by the Panthers.

That was an article referencing another report. He was unhappy with how Florida handled the situation, not with going to Calgary specifically but in typical online media fashion someone ran a misleading headline

Just because players can see the Flames are trying doesn't mean they'll like what they see in this team.

The issues he has, composure and consistent intensity could easily right themselves as he moves into his mid to late 20s. Skating is never going to be a strong suit but it wouldn't surprise me at all if the Panthers get a much better playoff Tkachuk than we had.

Um I think he is pissed was waiting to extend in Florida then traded out of nowhere. I think he has a right to be pissed and probably had the rug pulled out from under him.

Do we even know how Huberdeau or Weager have reacted? We’ve heard that Matthew is excited to go to Florida, but what about the 2 new guys we acquired?
|
I honestly don't see much downside in this transaction until the puck drops for next season and neither player is signed.
They got way more than I or almost anyone expected.
Until that point it's a great asset transaction that puts the franchise in a better spot than I was expecting when Gaudreau left and Tkachuk said he wanted out.
If they can't sign either player, and go into the season with two UFAs it's a strange move by ownership to win again and I'll be disappointed.
