Good deal for him. Not so sure if it's great for the Ducks. Slow skating center in his mid-30's doesn't sound like a great idea.

Isn't Ryan the good skating Strome who is constantly lost in the neutral and D zone ?

			Nice.
Made it through free agent day without signing any future albatross contracts.

Still unclear of the direction this team is headed though.

For one thing, it does appear that they are going to ice a full roster that is above the salary cap floor. This will bitterly disappoint a few CPers who apparently wanted to sell everything, sign nobody, and skip having a team this season.

Agreed. Hopefully one season for Darryl to finish his deal and do it his way. He can see what happens in that off season if he wants to come back or not. Huska could be in a nice spot if they retool and start dumping guys.

Not much left that I'm interested in. Kadri isn't worth losing any of Kylington/Mangiapane/Tkachuk nor is it particularly worthwhile to pay someone to take Monahan/Lucic now. 2023 you can set yourself up for MacKinnon/Huberdeau.

Don’t get your hopes up. Very unlikely they make it to UFA.

That's probably what Philly thought about Gaudreau. But if it doesn't work out, you're still likely to prefer rebuilding to being all-in on Kadri.

I agree a rebuild needs to be the next step. Hopefully it’s sooner rather than later

After Zadarov signing, we have room to have Tkachuk, Mangiapane and Kylington at $9M, $5.5M and $4M, respectively and ice some version of the following and come in just under the cap:
 Tkachuk - Lindholm - Mangiapane
 Dube - Backlund - Coleman
 Pelletier - Monahan - Toffoli
 Lucic - Rooney - Lewis

 Ruzicka

 Tanev - Kylington
 Hannafin - Anderson
 Zadarov - Mackey

 Valimaki

 Markstrom
 Vladar

 Two observations from this:

 - We are either done, or we are trading Lucic.
 - If we are done, as Sean Monahan goes, so goes the 2022/2023 Calgary Flames.

That roster looks atrocious without the small guy.

No. He's actually a decent two-way center.

I don’t think it’s horrible. I think that’s a playoff team under Sutter. However like most folks on here, I don’t think you’ve got much hope of winning a cup and it begs the question of when you pull the trigger on a re-build. The answer to that revolves around when you trade Tkachuk, with the following three possibilities:

1. Admit defeat, trade him now
2. Roll out the roster above, give it until the All-Star break, trade him at the deadline if we suck
3. If we are in it, keep him, and hope to re-sign him or lose him for nothing.

I think the difference in trade return for the first two options is marginal, so if I was to guess, I’d say Treliving is going to hold on to him for now.

			That roster is horrible.
The defense core is worse without Gudbrandson. Zad has his upside but he needs a stabilzing partner, and we've seen Kylington without Tanev and it ain't good. So something fairly serious has to happen for the D to look okay.

The forward group was very close to a one-line team last year, and if you take Gaudreau out of it and promote someone, it makes the 2nd and 3rd line just awful.

Monahan may or may not play, and if he does, it may be short term or hampered by current (or new) injury. He's never been fast, and the league is fast now. Flames would be very lucky indeed if he's capable of anchoring a 3rd line this year.

Unless guys like Dube take a major step in what they bring every game... boy, this looks rough to me. Toffoli should be better than last year, but he's not a kid either. We'll see.
