So if Johnny is leaving Calgary for family reasons, I only buy it if he signs in Jersey or Philly, maybe NY also though that's a bit farther. With him signing in Columbus when Jersey was a possibility, I can't buy the visit-my-family narrative.
 |
I don't think it's him visiting them, but making it easier for them to visit him. It is definitely easier on them this way.

It's a difficult comparison though, because Western Canada doesn't have a lot of teams. Yeah, JG might be in Columbus, but he will also be spending a lot of time in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Newark, Philadelphia, and DC as the Blue Jackets play in that area a lot. All easily drivable distances for family to visit him on road trips. In the Western Conference, that opportunity doesn't exist.
 |
A Western Conference team plays one road game per year against each Metropolitan Division team (8 total). A team in the Metro Division plays one road game against one divisional opponent and two against the others (13 total). It's not that big a difference.

Just came back to post WTF!? Yelling at the clouds isn’t doing it for me… the only explanation is Gaudreau doesn’t like the limelight, doesn’t like money, and doesn’t like winning. Also doesn’t care about being near family… what I’m starting to realize is that he’s a sociopath, and this will all likely end in some sort of elaborate murder suicide… we dodged a bullet guys.

Not nearly as easy as it would have been if he had signed with Jersey.

Not easier than NJ. So why didn’t he take that offer, even if it was a couple dollars less (reports vary).

I can’t help but assume that the free agent offers were ultimately not what he was hoping for Given this signing came so late in the day.
I read Columbus is an 8 hr drive from his hometown.

I say that after 3 70 point seasons he is asking for a trade

 Still wtf? Columbus?
 |
I dunno. If the team plays well, is always winning, strong bond with teammates, a great coach that cares for you, fans that love you.....how is that not leading to a great nights sleep?

I would say you're not sleeping if you suck every single day.

NHL players don't play to lose and go home and forget about it.

At least that is what I thought until today.

The teams he plays will be more closely clustered though. It's not like JGs family could go to Calgary and easily travel from home to visit him while he also played in Vancouver or San Jose.

Wait what? Trash his family? I'm simply rebuking something that one of them said... and are you really expecting me to believe his family members didn't play a role in his decision to leave Calgary?

Well that person has to be the owner, because I don't think anyone else would be kept over Johnny if that were the case.

I think we're talking at cross-purposes. I thought we were talking about the number of times Gaudreau will visit Philly, Jersey, or New York in a season, giving the family a chance to drive in and hang out with him. That number doesn't change all that much just by playing in the same division.
