Gross is sure outing himself as a poor agent lol.
Both of Johnny's previous two contracts he's going to leave money on the table.

We didn't offer the 'same' money, we offered the same money over 1 extra year
If the Flames final offer was 10.5 million and he can get 12 million on the market he should leave.
I actually feed less annoyed them him solely leaving for geography.
Plus he gets to be closer to home, and avoid cross border travel.
Seems like a no brainer for him if money and family are what mattered. I guess maybe Columbus sucks hockey wise, but lots can change over 7 years.

It's too far gone now to come back to CGY. But boy oh boy if he signs in CLB. It's all about the payday and not the family angle.
Eff that guy if he signs in CLB.

He’s not signing with CBJ. This is likely agent propaganda. It’s BS.
I’d bet money he agreed with NJ last night. All of this is smoke and mirrors.

I'm not saying DeAngelo is a good person, but you picked a really bad source to prove it.

Assuming he'd get the same/comparable on the open market was his mistake. Given the times and the cap constraints for these teams, never wise to play that game.
Just because it's home doesn't mean those teams will move heaven and earth the way the Flames were willing to.

Jarmo Kekalainen and Ville Siren are probably sitting in their office now, drinking wine and stroking their cats like the good villains they are.

As for Gaudreau's motives, you can question those if he actually signs with Columbus. The rumour that he received an offer is a far cry from signing a real contract.
|
Yeah, anyone can make an offer. Doesn't mean the player is going to consider it. Jarmo likely realizes the only thing he can offer is a truckload of cash.

He comes crawling back to Calgary and the Flames should say, "Sorry, we're going all in for for the Bedard/Michkov sweepstakes. Wanna come cheap for another rebuild?"

Made Gaudreau hold out... on a ####ing ELC (???)
Made Nylander nearly sit out for the entire year (and not get paid for it, costing him something like 30k every day he sat out)
Made Gaudreau sit out until the start of the season (who subsequently had his worst season in the NHL of date)
Made Krug hold off until the day before UFA day
Not a great track record of being reasonable to deal with and in good faith, and now it's starting to look like he may have lost his best client 15-20 million in career earnings. Not the way you want to attract new clientele.

In one season in the OHL, DeAngelo was suspended twice for “contravening the rule which attempts to keep homophobic, racist, sexist, and the other derogatory language used by small minds – out of the game.“

Then there’s that infamous video of Anthony DeAngelo, Tony’s dad, stating that he uses racist slurs “every day, every day.”

but ya it was definitely the Trump vote that did him in.

I don't recall who mentioned it, but this is a perfect example of why it would be a good thing to allow the original team to still have that 8th year option after UFA period has started. Let the player test the market and if it isn't what he thinks, allow a way back.

He doesn’t have to take the highest bid. But it sure messes up his bargaining power with the team that he’s interested in.
