I said earlier that I wouldn't be surprised if Gross took the final offer from the Flames and checked to see if any team would match that total on a 7 year term before making the final decision to become a free agent. Gross could have just did this to make the Isles or Devils increase their offers, if my previous assumption is correct.

Who says he's using Columbus for anything? Like Jarmo Kekäläinen is a ventriloquist's dummy and Gaudreau has a hand up his butt. Kekäläinen is quite capable of making a goofy offer to a free agent without anyone else's prompting.

As for Gaudreau's motives, you can question those if he actually signs with Columbus. The rumour that he received an offer is a far cry from signing a real contract.
