I know that the Flames lost their best winger, But I think they need to target a top 6 center more than anything. Backlund, nor Monahan are a good fit there any more.

			Dylan Strome Nazem Kadri
 Ryan Strome

are the Flames best options for a #2 center. In that order.

and do what? have Monahan and Backlund player 2nd line center? The Flames need a top 6 center badly.

What's the AAV that makes Kadri worthwhile?
 $6-7M?

5.65 or less because of age and term he will want.

Then trade Tkachuk for one.

Of your list, Kadri's the only upgrade but will have an enormous price tag.

I would be more worried about term than AAV, right now the Flames can afford a large contract. Anything under 5 years would be OK. At 31 even that is a huge risk.

More like what’s the term that makes Kadri worthwhile. And I expect him to get 7 year term.

I think you and I have a fundamental difference in opinion on what direction the Flames will / should take in the off season.

It will be interesting to read the "tank" vs compete debates this summer.

Fwiw, I think the Flames try and shore up the gap in the top 6. They have above average D, Goaltending, and coaching. They are also in a cycle where lot of young players will push for a spot in camp. I think this off season, the Flames try to make it work. Now, I am not going to pretend that I am right, or that I know best. But with two smart additions to the middle six, the Flames are a playoff team again.

Yep, fair enough.

I just don't see how adding one of the Stromes or even Kadri keeps us at the same level or improves us over last year's roster. Sure Monahan & Backlund aren't the answer going forward, but don't think these guys are either, so just because they're the best options in free agency doesn't make them a good idea to me.

I doubt the Flames rebuild, but I doubt we sign a big fish too. Think we have a year or two of treading water ahead of us.

Unfortunately the Flames will take the Minnesota approach. It is almost a guarantee. At least Dylan Strome adds some youth. I just don't want to see the Flames load of with age. Lets just hope that any of Mackey, Valimaki, Zary, Pelletier, or Coronato blow the doors off next fall .

That won’t be a bad AAV depending on term. He will most likely make more than that.

Rumor/discussion out there that the Avs might be trying to bring him back as well.
