Either way, Zadorov I figured would be taking flight no matter how the negotiations went as he was chasing money and there'd be no way we'd be forking over anything more than bottom pairing money.

Not really surprising. Zadorov may be able to fetch a decent contract on the market and just because the Flames have a little more money freed up it doesn't mean they should overpay 3rd pairing defensemen. I think Gudbranson will be the guy the Flames key on first. I'm not overly worried about the back end of the team as they will have to add another piece or two on offense.

Got to think Zadorov will leave money on the table to get a long term deal. The bouncing around he's done so far has to be annoying. I quite enjoyed the long form interview that happened with the Russian reporter last year. Someone here transcribed it and a friend of mine who speaks the language watched with me and translated it.

Good luck to him.
Great to have had him and Gud finally provide a pairing that other teams couldn't start anything with and we're intimidated by. Was far too long to have a pairing like that and allowed our skilled guys to walk a little taller, and that is important.
He will chase the dough. Again.
Sounds like a cool guy and the 2h long YouTube interview was fascinating.
Sutter will find his replacement, of which 30% of the board will scoff at as they did him and Gud a year ago.
