Let's not forget he didn't just eff his former team, he kinda effed his former team-mates.
He held all the cards and used them

This is twice that our best player has left in a manner that made it quite clear it was really all about them.

Truly, that Seravalli tweet sucks. I will have very little interest in the Flames this year. Treliving went all-in, and this is the culmination of the team he put together. Pretty sad feeling. Johnny was the one player that made me excited to watch the Flames.

When do we expect Tre to address the media? Ideally it should happen today, but most likely tomorrow.

I really hope he doesn’t do something stupid and overpay for some free agents with the opened up cap space. It is a year that we are coming back to earth, after losing Johnny and potentially Chucky.

We might have avoided a cap hell.
This isn’t the end of the world but it may be time for Tre and others to leave.

If that is the case then the Flames didn’t offer him enough.

It’s more like he already made up his mind when he stopped negotiating last year

No, but allowing your best player to enter the final year of his contract when he can walk for nothing is not something winning franchises tend to do. We should have asked him where he wanted to go last summer and made a trade that got us something in return. The team was going nowhere this year and barely made it out of the first round against a terrible Dallas team.

Can they take Toffoli with them?

Which is more valuable:

• Gaudreau playing his career year in Calgary, getting a first-place finish in the division, and winning a playoff series for only the second time in the salary cap era; or

• Getting marginal picks and prospects by selling him as a rental last year, being a bubble team, and watching him have his career year somewhere else?

The same people who are crying for Treliving to be fired now would have cried for him to be fired if Gaudreau scored 115 points for some other team.

There is no winning with this crowd.
He could have signed him last summer. That is a third way.

It could be a blessing but it probably takes Treliving getting fired. They sign players trying to win now this will set this franchise back a decade

Flames are the blue jackets. The quicker we all adjust to that mindset the better off we’ll be

He had months to make the decision. I have a hard time believing he didn't make his mind up some time ago and his agent was using the Flames contract as leverage for negotiations with other teams.

Sickening. Let the best, most dynamic and exciting player we had in the past 10 years since Jarome iginla leave for free.

Wouldn't surprise me if Tre hard bargained him all last year and after this season and home calling said #### it.

Any 13 year old who plays franchise mode in EA Sports knows that you don't let your best player walk out the door with no return. So to answer your question, someone who has played NHL 22.
