He's OK if he plays with Kane. Otherwise he's the new Monny. Except he's not injured.

They have tried to trade him, no takers.

Wonder what he wants. Coming off 2x$3M. A second scoring centre would be really nice, if Monahan is a no go.

What if Tkachuk won't sign so they went:

Gaudreau-Lindholm-Mangiapane
Monahan-Strome-Toffoli (Monahan can take LH draws)
Dube-Backlund-Coleman
Pelletier-Ruzicka-Lucic

Monny and Strome together with Tofolli would be just terrible.

If you wanted Strome, you'd have to play him with Johnny, otherwise he's useless.

Jfresh kind of pointed out how his own cards are not that accurate sometimes by showing a players two cards from successive years. One was crap and the other very very solid.

Have a look at, say, Zadorov's from the year before he came to Calgary.

Strome is a better passer, and plays at the pace of Toffoli and Monahan. Who both need passers.

I really like the idea of a buy low on Strome. This guy has serious offensive upside if sheltered. IMO we have that ability to shelter him. Lindy-Backlund provide more than enough 2-way compensation to have a purely offensive minded line. I also love G4's suggestion that the strome pace matches Monahan-Toffoli. I think they would do well in this scenario, and it would be a changeup compared to the rest of our line for opposing defenses. It could cause them a lot of problems. Imagine having to grind it out against those three guys down low in the zone for a while and getting a bit stagnant, then having Gaudreau rammed down your throat next shift.

Seems pretty clear that the strategic direction of the team has come down from ownership, and that strategy was all-in last season and next. Win now. If Gaudreau and Tkachuk walk, they walk. There will be no take a step back today style asset management. If Tkachuk is traded before he reaches UFA (which I think unlikely), it will be for roster veterans.

Those two have NMC with one year left. I think the Hawks are encouraging them to want to move.

By the time these guys can skate into the zone their shift will be over.

I don't think the idea of having an extremely slow line used as a change up exists in hockey.

I doubt the opposing team, when they get the puck, will skate slowly to allow this line time to catch up.

Hell no to Strome, but I would love to get Dach. Sutter would turn him into a force. Don’t have the assets needed to aquire him, though.

It's not like they're incapable of skating. They're just slower straight line skaters than most. But, all are actually mediocre to good at puck control, and that would be the defining factor governing the amount of zone time they had.

Regarding your comment about facing an opposing zone breakout, yeah, but that's why you give them favorable o zone starts and allow the other lines to have the harder assignments. The D on the ice should be able to slow down the opposition long enough for 1 or more of them to get to the bench for a change/ come back and defend in transition.

They couldn't trade him. NOW they're giving him away. Costs zero draft picks or prospects.

Don't like him? There's another Strome available.
