In that same link for the reddit rumor they said Chytil is on the block. And Nils Lundvist.
Could use both.

I like both players. Chytil looked good in the playoffs-7 goals in 20 games, he looks like he could really turn a corner if given a new opportunity. I've always liked him. Lundqvist needs more seasoning, but he was a first-rounder, and has potential. I dare not hope....

Lundkvist was thought of as untouchable not too long ago. Was putting up Karlsson type numbers in Sweden before coming over. I wonder why he's on the block?

Allan Fux is why. They don't have room for Nils.

His numbers in his first season in NA as a 21 year old were fairly meh-4 pts in 25 NHL games, and 15 pts in 34 AHL games (-9), plus he's pretty small. Perhaps they see something that makes them believe he's not an NHL player?

Haha. Well I'd love the Flames to nab him, but I doubt they could get him for Monahan.

We don’t really think we can get a good young player for Monahan do we?

I can't see it, but possibly guys like I mentioned earlier like Julien Gauthier (who's asked for a trade) or Patrik Nemeth.

Agree the Monahan wouldn't be enough, but it's interesting to see that (to other markets) he might have positive trade value. The thing about NYR is that Kakko is rumored to not be untouchable, and that's the kind of player that could really pop.
It would also be the responsible way to go, for Tre to move forward with the rest of the roster construction independent of the drama on the first line. Going to be some kind of two weeks.

I just think if Kakko is available it’s not for a deal for Monahan.

No way Monahan gets Kakko but Kakko would be a great target. Maybe Valimaki and nemeth being in the deal plus the flsmes adding a prospect makes sense
Kakko and Nemeth
For
Monahan valimaki and zary

I don't think we would get anything good for Monahan, was just spitballin' on a few NYR players. Whatever we can get for him, take the cap space and run....

At this stage Monny has negative value. No one is simply taking that contract, much less giving up something of value for him.

Rangers would be looking to shed cap, not increase it.

I am not sure he is in full on negative value territory but he is not in a spot where you dump the cap hit and get a good young asset in return but I am not sure he is a purely negative asset. I feel like he would be fairly easy to move if there was zero trade protection.
With 1 year left it would be a buy low move for a team with a ton of cap space. I could see a team paying a 3rd rounder for him with hopes he nets a 2nd + at the deadline if he can find his game again.

I agree with this. Imo flames will have to eat a bit of salary and probably take back at least a 4th line plug who might not be able to crack the lineup on a regular basis. Not a chance flames get any of the players back that were mentioned in posts before this.

Can't wait until the really bad trade proposals come in, with my favorite, the "sweetener".

Teams with a ton of cap space usually has it because they are not spending to the cap. And if they do decide to use it, it's usually to get a great asset for taking on that cap space.
You expect a team to give up a third round pick on the off chance Monny can return a 2nd round pick at the deadline? Talk about an expensive gamble with little upside.
We are talking about over $6M in cap space the Flames are (knowingly) desperate to move. No one will simply do them such a favour.
Now, if Monny proves himself healthy and effective, that's a different matter. But the odds appear long on that account, if you've been paying attention with his complete lack of production for some time.
