That is quite possibly the most ridiculous thing I've read in this thread.

They're living, thinking, feeling, social creatures that people bring into their homes and form life-long friendships with. They’re not people, but that seems like part of society to me.

How about dogs eating with hands?

Why am I friends with these people? Don't bring a dog to a non dog owners home even after it's declared up front the condition. I'm gonna send am a bill and the mattress.
Kind of off topic but why would you have people stay in your house? It's been over 12 years since I had someone stay over in my home. Go stay in a hotel or Air BnB. If I visit you in your home city, I won't ever ask to stay at your place.

My friend from Japan came by back in 2019 and asked if she and her husband and son could stay with us. I said sure and when she got here I got her a place in Motel Village for like $80/night which is only 5 mins away. It was great!

This is factually true.

Sure my home is slightly messier due to my dog, that just means I clean more. Really not an issue. My life is also improved being surrounded by that precious bundle of joy. Everyone I go people adore him, safeway, shoppers drug mart, Tim Hortons. He's greeted with smiles.

I feel bad for the anti-social germaphobes amongst us who can't relax and enjoy the beautiful experience of pet companionship.

Some very interesting psychoses revealed in this thread. I have some colleagues who would happily interview all of you for a research paper they are writing about social psychology.

I understand people thinking pets are dirty, scary or just not for them; but the vocal anti-pet people certainly fit your description. They're just an odd bunch.

I tend to subdivide people into "dog people" and "non dog people". My trust meter automatically goes up a notch, when I meet "dog people".

Agreed. Nobody should be marrying their dog, even if they understand the marriage isn’t legal.

Icky stuff.

Never say never, Dion. Dogs are just part of society, after all.

As I said before, if that’s your style, go wild. But maybe let’s scale back the commentary on who qualifies as anti-social from the crowd who admits to liking animals that can’t talk more than people and goes around picking up their “best friend”’s poop with their hands. Not how I “socialise” with my friends, but everyone is different.

Then stop making comments like "You’re one of those people who married their dog, aren’t you?"

Anti social is of course the wrong word to use. People who have never owned a dog might not appreciate how much dogs mean to their owners and how they are treated or become a part of the family. Or the gap it leaves in their lives when they are gone.

Still, I don't need to hear your dogs name 76 times in different tones. Maybe its a way for some to get around being socially anxious by talking to your pet instead but it comes across like antisocial behaviour.
My wife is a professional service dog trainer with Pacific Assistance Dogs Society, and one of the huge benefits her clients report is just how helpful their dogs are in social situations, where people with disabities often can—and do—struggle and feel at a disadvantage.

We commonly have four additional dogs in our house along with our own three, and I am not going to lie—it's a challenge to stay on top of keeping everything as clean as we want it. But, truth be told, our own social circle is pretty exclusively dog inclusive. I don't have ant particular interest in being your friend if you are grossed out or uncomfortable around my dogs.

And, yeah. They are kind of amazing—especially my Belgian Malinois, who likes to do stuff like this:

Don't bother. Pepsifree has just been leaving snide/provocative responses to my posts in various threads since we had a disagreement a little while ago. It's a weird thing to do, but not worth engaging with. I just stuck him on ignore, and I'm frankly not bothered what he replies to my posts.
