No problem, just bring in Malkin or Giroux. Boom, second puck carrier!

So with people talking about 10 mil contracts for either of them remember how many teams have won the cup with guys over 10 mil contracts. I think you all know the answer. Are either or both about the team or their fat wallets. If team players its all great if fat wallets are priority this team will not have a chance. We will just be like the Oilers south version at best.

How in the hell do the Flames add an impactful puck carrier and sign Johnny and Tkachuk? I'm sure Johnny wants Tkachuk to stay.

I guarantee this will be changing...I mean Tampa has multiple 9.5M players already and the cap is rising.

They likely don't.
Unless Lucic retires and someone takes Monahan without the Flames retaining, or sending salary back in the deal.
Even then it'd be nip and tuck to fill out the roster with decent enough depth where losing one of top 4 Dmen doesn't turn us into swiss ####ing cheese vs our biggest rivals during our biggest clash with them in 30+ years.

The problem with this line of thinking is that is looks back to the past.
It is only a matter of time before team with $10M + players start winning cups. The cap is going to go up. Once betting and the new TV deals kick in, it is probably going to go up substantially. $10M players in 2024 are going to be $8M players in 2016.

This has been thoroughly debunked earlier in the thread, but here's one quick example:
Malkin's 9.5 AAV was 13.3% of the cap in 2016 (and 13% in 2017).
10M AAV next year would be 12.1%; 10.725M would be 13%.
That said, I wouldn't want a winger eating that much cap unless he actually produces like Kucherov

Not to mention the league hit record revenue this season and will next season again just due to inflation.

Record revenue largely because there was an additional team. Of course, that means a whole extra set of expenses including salaries.

Eventually there will be some bigger increases to the cap....but for now, the players owe the owners North of 800M dollars because of the pandemic seasons.
That money will have to clawed back long before any significant money goes back to the players however. And at no time will it be 20% higher than in 2016 before that occurs.
That does not mean you wont see a few 8 digit deals happening, but they will not be commonplace as you seem to be suggesting.

Completely disagree. The added revenue streams are substantial. They're going to want that going towards the cap in order to project success ahead of the next Canadian deal. Superstar contracts will sky rocket soon.

I'm pretty sure the players will first have to pay $1 billion to the owners that they owe before large increases in contracts.

Back to the topic I feel that if a Gaudreau contract isn't announced within a week after the end of the Stanley Cup finals then it's maybe time to start feeling a little uncomfortable about the situation.

Well yeah as that will be the week after the finals. Free agency doesn't start until July 13 this year.

Personally I'm just going to chill on the whole thing until he announces where he's signed.
There really isn't a hint good or bad until that happens unless someone comes out and says it's either going well or poorly.

If it goes into the 2nd week of July we can assume it's going poorly for the Flames as they need to know his intentions days prior to free agency. I expect they have a date drawn in the sand where they will have to move on that's prior to the 13th.
