True, but part of the agent's job is to filter out the tire kickers and present what teams are serious. Obviously, things can change with RFA negotiations and buyouts affecting availability and market conditions, but I still think a good agent can present an accurate picture of what the market will be for their client if they go to free agency.

Flames Instagram page today has a post of their favourite Johnny pic. Seems like a weird thing to post at this time unless you believed the player was staying. It could very well mean nothing but I find the timing interesting.

I think you're right but on more than one occasion Johnny's dad publicly stated how much he has flourished under Darryl as head coach.

Player management and social media rarely talk. Plus, he is still a Calgary Flame until July 13th.
Not weird at all IMO.

Here are some things:
- IF Johnny agrees to a contract from the flames, it will not be below 8 years x 9.5 million. Likely this is closer to $10 per season.
- Johnny is the highest priority contract right now, and because of cap situation his deal likely needs to be somewhat solidified before more negotiations can move forward
- There is recognition that another puck carrier is needed on the team, whether from the back end or elsewhere
I think it's getting hotter in the room. No doubt it is desirable to have a decision in hand pre draft as it allows a lot more maneuvering.

What keeps me from worrying too much is not a single high profile UFA or RFA has yet to sign a contract.

In the past, it seems to me that most announcements are held off until the SCF is over.

And we have the NHL awards tomorrow. Next week, prior to the July long weekend in Canada and the US would be peachy.

He had an inside scoop on this awhile back that was pulled back. It all makes sense.

I understand the 3rd point, but is Gaudreau's camp expecting the Flames to swing a deal before he signs a deal? Is that what the implication is?

If a puck mover is coming in, does that mean one (or more) of the bigger puck jamming forward contracts is being moved out? The question is where is the cap space coming from? Tkachuk? Mangiapane?

Third point is an interesting one. Admittedly I’ve only read parts of this thread, so I’m not sure if it has been discussed, but the case could be that Gaudreau is good with therms terms being discussed but he may want to know more about the direction of the team. What are the missing parts, does Gaudreau agree with their assessment? How long is Daryl sticking around for? What do they feel their competitive window is? What’s going on with the arena?
If the room is getting hotter, is that a good thing? Hotter as in tense? Colder would be bad in my mind.

Who could the Flames realistically target? Someone like Klingberg maybe? It would probably come at the expense of retaining Mangi and Kylington.

Taking a while to get to 5000
|
Darryl likes vets and this team needs to save money. They'll probably target Alex Edler.

I’d be happy with Edler at the right price.

I doubt an aging bargain bin Edler would be all that thrilling to Gaudreau though.
