I know it has been said in this thread before, but Woodcroft isn't going to finish out this contract before being fired.
If Todd McClelland, Ken Hitchcock, Dave Tippett couldnt fix this crew, no way Woodcroft can. Keeping pucks out their own net has always been the problem, and their GAA in the Stanley Cup playoffs has demonstrated that nothing has changed on that front.

Does it really matter if it’s 3 years or 10 years or 1 year? The Oilers were six points out of the playoffs, Woodcroft comes in and they end up getting to the west final. Woodcroft has been around the league for what, 20 years? Exceptionally good results in the AHL, he knows the entire team, and he seems to have buy in from the superstars. The fact that anyone thinks this is a bad idea is quite frankly hilarious.

It's a pretty easy signing. He did well, they can't let him go.
But just throwing 29 and 97 out there over and over again isn't great coaching. We'll see if either of those two get hurt and they face some adversity what he'll do.

I don't think it's 'buy in'. He just plays the heck out them. And why not?
Why wouldn't those two like that scenario?

It'll be funny watching the fans turn on him halfway through the season when the team is struggling to stay in a playoff spot.

Look up Mike Smith's save percentage in April vs. any other month. That is what put them in the playoffs to begin with.
Then look up LA's injured list during that series. That is what put them in the second round, and only barely.
The Flames self-destructed. The second-best defensive team in the league all season long, including the first round of the playoffs, just stopped checking – I suspect because they knew the officials were going to call penalties on anything that resembled defensive hockey. Sure, you can't give the Oilers McPowerPlays, but you can't let them run their McPowerPlay 5-on-5, either. If those are your choices, you have nothing to lose by playing your game – but the Flames never did.

Um, no. Woodcroft had less than a 0.600 winning percentage in the AHL, which is pretty pedestrian. He won a championship in 2021, but it was a seven-team tournament in which Bakersfield played a total of six games. You read that right: Bakersfield won a Calder Cup by playing only SIX GAMES (4-2).

It's a predictable pattern. The Oilers also got early "buy in" under McLellan and Tippet, but history shows that it does not last. They will turn on Woodcroft, too.

Predictions for when da Conna and Pissy turn on him for demanding they play defensively responsible hockey for 80 games.
I'd say game 40.

Easy choice for the Oilers. Not necessarily the best choice, but without question the easiest.
Kind of like re-signing Smith after last year was the easy choice.
I do like the fact that the next three years of Connor McDavid’s prime will be under his watch. Let’s go.

My theory is they pretended to be "engaged" over 200 feet long enough to get the baby poo soft nice guy coach inked for 3 years and now they can just live the easy life, coast and go back to bagging PP points.

Oilers, nor anybody else know anything about Woodcroft's shelf life as a non-interim HC.
But sure, let's go and lock ourselves into 3 years.
I get the sense of a coaching version of the Koskinen signing.

His success also coincided with getting an additional 40 goal player dropped on to the team. It will be interesting to see how he does if basically the same team comes back minus Kane.
