It'll get done if Johnny wants to stay in Calgary.
They will offer him the most money because of the 8th year, no doubt in my mind.
The only question (in my mind) is will he want to play somewhere else for a little less money?
Or will curiosity get the better of him and cause him to wait until free agency opens to see what other offers there are, causing the 8th year option to disappear?

You’re a toxic ass to suggest Johnny does anything but supplicate to the red laundry.

Money is king almost every time. The exceptions are few and far between that I can think of. Tavares is really the only one I can recall.

We also pretend like we know 100% everything that was offered, because things are “reported”. But we don’t have a clue.
It seems silly to pretend money is absolutely everything when people in middle class jobs don’t even think like that.

Following up on Scroopy, teams could have very good reasons to 'exaggerate' how close they were/how big their offers were.
Panarin has the 2nd highest AAV in the league...it's a pretty tough sell that he turned down significantly more money.

It has been talked a lot about. Taxes make a difference, but not as significant as many suggest. Athletes get taxed based on their residence. Meaning that where ever JG's legal home is is his tax rate for every game the Flames play on the road. It is only the games that played in canada he would have to play AB taxes.
Secondly, Atheletes are able to effectively defer lots of their income until after retirement. I cant remember what they're called.
TLDR/ taxes impact how much money players take home based on location, but not as much as you would imagine.

The only teams with big tax advantages to Calgary are Vegas, Dallas, Nashville, Florida, Tampa, and Seattle. The rest are within 3% of Calgary.

Man I hope this deal gets done soon as we are back to the same old recycled conversations on why he will or won't re-sign now with the added spice of a silly sign and trade debate. There's really not more that can be said at this point that hasn't been said numerous times over the years as he's either going to re-sign or he's not. That's really all we know at this point.

Bud don't worry, if/when he signs they'll be a thread or two made. No need to come into this one at all if you don't want to play pretend GM.

I have already played my pretend GM cards. There's only so much redundancy a conversation can have before things become silly. Let's talk about taxe advantages for the 100th time.....

I think my panic date or time to be concerned date is June 24th. If the contract takes more than 3 weeks to figure out its not a great sign.
Saying that I think it's done and signed by next Friday

You just keep being you. I'll revert to periodically dropping in, navigating through the endless back and forth in hopes of seeing another juicy rumor or insider news related to the topic.

Remember the state of residence is only one factor in taxes. In the US you pay based on where you earn the money. So playing games in Cali and NY subjects you to their non-resident state income taxes for that portion of your income earned in that state.
It reduces the benefit of playing in a no income tax state because chances are you are also paying more in property taxes.
