Like how painful is it to get mauled to death?

I hadn't seen the breed mentioned anywhere yet?

The dog owner's home was one of the two in the following video. (Likely the one on the right, 1516.) Neither of these homes has a very adequate looking fence. I feel like bylaw should specify some minimum (six foot) fence and gate requirements if you are going to have a dog at large in your yard.

I haven't seen but a person in the office said it was three pitbulls from a news update he heard this morning. If it's incorrect I apologize as I'm just going from what I heard.

https://calgary.citynews.ca/2022/06/...t-bull-attack/
"Officers say the dog owner has three pit bulls, and it’s unclear how many of the dogs may have mauled the woman, however, the owner is cooperating with the investigation."

How many more times do we have to see vicious attacks by pitbulls followed up by "pitbulls aren't dangerous" before we convince people otherwise and ban these things.

Multiple dog owner, and it’s pit bulls. Shocking.

Automatically, your dog kills someone it has to be criminal negligence causing death. There’s literally no way you weren’t if your ####ing dog killed someone.

This breed has no use being around. Sorry, I love dogs, but the ratio of serious injury/death to pit bulls has to be 10 times any other breed. #### off, it’s the owner not the dog or whatever you tell yourself. They’re deadly weapons handled by untrained dolts and should not be in a community.

IMO its similar to the gun discussion, ban the AR-15s since they seem to be what is used to kill folks. Ban pitbulls for the same reason. Absolutely senseless that anyone "needs" to own that breed, or that anyone is mauled to death by a dog in this country.

The only difference here, is one is entwined deep into a culture already, and one isn't. It would be so easy to ban pitbulls. Just ban any new sales and registrations. This allows current owners to keep them obviously, and there really is no basis for someone to say their rights are being infringed upon.

What a terrible thing to happen.

To own a pitbull, you have to be an above-and-beyond pet owner with more than secure enclosure for the dog, the willingness to exercise the dog, and the means to have it properly trained. You better be in good phsyical condition yourself to restrain the dog when needed. Unfortunately, any pitbull owner I knew was none of these things.

Like why not a Setter, a Lab, a Retriever if you want a larger dog? Why pitbull???

Humans domesticated dogs way before guns were invented. Since we’re just talking about everything in here I thought I’d throw that into the mix.

A lot of additional details in the Herald article. Definitely a tough read though.

This is heartbreaking. But isn't there stats out there about dog attacks from other breeds just increase when pitbulls are banned?

https://globalnews.ca/news/3908748/p...n-bites-proof/
Every data point I've seen shows a link between dangerous dog breeds and bite frequency. The fact that irresponsible owners are still allowed to got out and get a rottweiler or a German Shepard when Bit Bulls are banned, doesn't make Pit Bulls any less dangerous. The answer here is clearly further regulations, and regulation aimed at ownership.

My thinking has always been that all dogs can go nuts and bite someone. Not all dogs are engineered specifically for the purpose of killing other animals in fights. If you live in the city, why do you need a dog like that when other dog breeds are available, many specifically for the purpose of solely being companions to humans.

I was renting my basement suite out, and it's amazing how many people think I'm going to let their pit bull(s) share my backyard with my one year old child. Even one claiming it was some kind of human rights violation not to rent them the space.

More par for the course. Pit bull owners are not sensible people evidenced by the fact they own a pit bull.

That's just as infuriating as the dog attack. I want to know why the hell it took so long? Is that standard now?
