Rumours of the death of sports are greatly exaggerated, IMO.

I think it’s more like the death of the types of growth in the business of sports these businesses have grown accustomed to. Just like any business there are price points that become more and more difficult to justify and I think you’ll start to see that in coming years especially as the standard of living in Canada erodes and cost of living continues to increase without corresponding increases to average incomes. Hopefully incomes grow but it really does end up becoming simply a math problem on averages and people are probably choosing things like food and shelter over Tuesday night against the Arizona Coyotes.

Filling a stadium if the team is half-decent isn't hard to do. There is always a portion of the population that can afford it. And that portion doesn't have to be significant.
The NHL will have to have much better streaming options PDQ however.

Ok guys I get that; that rule was put into place so that players won't try to "kick" the puck into the net and end up slashing the goalie.
Can anybody show me a video of a player slashing the goalie with his skates while trying to "kick" the puck into the net with his hockey skates?

Unfortunately, there is a tremendous amount of instances to support 'fixing' allegations and the favoritism of certain teams or individual players for the purpose of maximizing revenue.

Not specifically no, but there is a video of a goalie getting slashed by a skate that is so horrific that the rule was made and no one is seriously interested in reversing it. Probably because they watched that video, once.
That being said, you also can’t throw or head but the puck in.

Thing is - it’s perfectly legal for a defender to do whatever kick he wants in the crease in order to try and prevent a goal.

So basically it's illegal to "kick" the puck into the net because some goalie got cut a millions years ago? While the player wasn't even trying to "kick" the puck into the net?

Yeah, it seems to me that had nothing to do with a kicking motion. It was just a freak accident, so the rule seems like it’s fixing a problem that doesn’t exist.
They should simplify the rule by either allow all goals scored with skates, or none.

I have zero problem with them getting rid of obvious kicking motions in the crease. I still remember watching that Malarchuk play on TV as a teenager like it was yesterday and anything that could lead to that needs to be stopped.
That being said, what Coleman did, with his skate on the ice the entire time and no kicking motion should be allowed every single time. You don't want players just flailing around in the crease trying to kick the puck in the net, everything else should be allowed. Rules need to be sensible, which obviously are far from it right now.

No. Basically, it’s illegal to propel the puck into the net with anything other than your stick.

Rule 49.2 (iv); "A goal will be allowed when a puck enters the goal after deflecting off an attacking player's skate or deflects off his skate while he is in the process of stopping".

That is not correct. You can use any part of your body except your hands. And there are limitations with your skates. Otherwise, you're good.
As for the stick, it must be below the cross bar

Head butting it in is illegal, I remember that from a season or two ago.

You can head butt an opponent and get a 1 game suspension.

Uh that is incorrect. Tell Andrew Shaw that headers are allowed.
What I wrote was basically how the rule is written. What are you going off of???
Quote:
rule 78.5. Disallowed Goals – Apparent goals shall be disallowed by the Referee and the appropriate announcement made by the Public Address Announcer for the following reasons:
(i) When the puck has been directed, batted or thrown into the net by an attacking player other than with a stick. When this occurs, if it is deemed to be done deliberately, then the decision shall be NO GOAL. A goal cannot be scored when the puck has been deliberately batted with any part of the attacking player’s body into the net.

I didn’t say anything about deflections. I think we’ve all seen the puck deflected off every part of a player, from face to nuts.

The rule is 'deliberately batted'. You had said propelled by any part of the body, and I focused on the any part of the body - which you can use. It can go in off your leg, your arm, your ass, your head. Just don't 'deliberately bat' it

I think propelled means to cause it to occur which is not allowed. A deflection is not "propelled".
