It's quite embarrassing to lose to these guys. We're the much better team so bloody well play like it.

It would be nice if Markstrom could put in a consistent effort this series.

Also, to continue to bang my drum.
Six goalies have appeared in all their team games so far (8 games).
Mike Smith is #1 in goals saved above expected. Markstrom is last. Mike Smith saves 0.7 more goals above expected per game than Markstrom.
Flames were definitely not at their best last night, but Markstrom is paid to help them out in those situations and he did not.

It's also practically impossible to sweep a series where McDavid is playing the way he is. Flames need to refocus and settle in for a long series. Get back to hitting and simple plays.

If they continue to take 11 penalties a game this series will be a short one. That takes our top line off the ice and puts mcdavid on the ice with a whole bunch more room.
Zadorov, kylington and Anderson learned last night what happens when they have to play him 1 on 1 with no help. You look like a fool.
Guys like coleman and tkachuk have to stop running around like idiots. Penalties killed the flames last night on a whole bunch of levels.
Flames need to start playing the diciplined game that got them here in the first place. 5 on 5 we’re the better team. 4 on 4 or 4 on 5 we are not the better team.
Hopefully they can figure that out. Or they will be golfing soon.

My worry is we don't seem to know how to play with the lead. 2 games now where we were in control and let them back in. I know it's difficult, especially with mccrossover, but there has to be something they can do better. Defensively, in our own end we continue to be a little scary.
Edit. I agree the reffing was pretty bad but we were all expecting that before the series even started.

Flames will adjust and play better next game. Fewer penalties for sure if they want to be able to stick to their game plan. It’s the playoffs and not the regular season anymore. I think the whole BOA has clouded that a bit, it’s still the playoffs and now a best of 5.

It seems this is the most inconsistent the Flames have been all year. It’s only 2 games, but they have been so different than the norm.
Tanev being out is a big loss, and McDavid just keeps doing whatever he wants whenever he wants. And now going up North he will have even more opportunities with last change.
Flames have been really sloppy, and careless. Just such a departure from what we’ve seen. Is it the Oilers? Is it the Flames? Both?
If they get back to their style I have full confidence in the team. Can’t keep playing these track meet type games and taking silly penalties or this series will be over.

Darryl needs to get McDavids autograph for certain guys. When u stand flat footed and watch he'll deke you out of your skates .
It's been nuts watching them try and continue chasing him, hitting him etc.
Here's the bad part ....it'd about to get worse in Edmonton and we all know it.
It's time to really grow a pair and stop with the retaliation....OILERS are winning this baiting game and we look like fools falling for it.
Second...need to get traffic , screens , bumps on Smith. What the heck is what happened last night ?
It was a blue paint party in our crease last night. Defend ffs. Skate and control the puck by slowing it down , plug up that neutral zone and posses the puck instead of pursuing it on D.
If that means less dump and chase and more skating it all the way out of the zone instead of looking for stretch passes then do it.
And forwards need to be better backchecking.
Dallas never let us skate around and look and remember how neutered we were in the opening round. They made it nearly impossible and we escaped that 1st rd barely.
It's exasperating watching this team self inflict it's own demise . Be better , be smarter this is Edmonton FFS. Come on!!!!
I'm telling you right now certain players have Sutter on mute already and the others aren't supporting the team physically or mentally. It's not that hard to see the tactics being used by the oil....we're playing right into their hands .

My thoughts are this
The Oilers have the typical horseshoes they always have and it paid off in a big way tonight...
To me the turning point was after the Oilers had their goal disallowed on goaltender interference...97 came right back and made us pay (literally right after the goal was called back) , as much as it disgusts me to watch it...he wouldn't be denied. Reminded me of Mario on some of those pens teams in the 90's.
Flames need to get back to their net front game. Need to box out shots from the slot a lot better. Hopefully away from home they can get back to playing their game when they slip up like they have all year.

Did anyone else find Woodcrofts after game press conference to be unusually smug? I mean “of course we won” kind of slant?
I thought there was a lot of bulletin board material in there.

A lot of Oiler goals and chances were just poor puck management leading to odd man rushes. And they aren’t defending McDavid in layers like they need to. That said, he’s found a new gear IMO. More dangerous off a cycle. Markstrom - I recognize the “he needs to make a save” argument, though IMO he made a lot of great saves. Hard to spot a bad goal though. Flames do have to be smarter in a badly called game or even an evenly called one. Too many opportunities given for refs to make a call. Coleman with a punch to the face way out in the open, dumb retaliations.

I’m not singling you out, but this phrase drives me nuts and is improperly used so much.
Last night the flames gave up 4 unanswered goals.
In game 1 they gave up 4 uninterrupted goals, as they most certainly answered them.
Same with people saying they gave up two 4-goal leads in game 1. They didn’t, unless the lead going from 4 to 3 then back to 4 is giving up a 4-goal lead, which is pretty silly.
/end rant

The 4 goal lead thing has been driving me crazy! Being up 5-1 and 6-2 is not giving up two 4 goal leads. It’s been so annoying hearing every media outlet say it for the last two days.
Giving up two four goal leads would be going up 5-1, then being tied 5-5, then being ahead 9-5, then being tied 9-9.
What they did is hold a four goal lead on two separate occasions. They didn’t give up two four goal leads though, they gave it up once 6-2 to 6-6.

Oh, and that early one for backchecking McDavid, which began mission: Will the Oilers back into the game.
A couple Oiler calls were poor too.

Call on Johnny for embellishing when he was cross checked from behind causing a play to go off side. It was brutal.

Is Sutter on the hook for:
- no answer at all for McDavid and an injured Drycycle?
- no killer instinct when leading games by 2+ goals?
- undisciplined play? Turning point was the garbage resulting in the 4 on 4 after we make it 3-1 on the power play. Restoring a 2 goal lead should have been the death grip
Not good enough.

You can make up all the reasons & excuses you want but the truth is that the Flames have been brutal. They shouldn't have to play a game like last night to figure out how to play the Oilers. Are these guys so dumb that they need a refresher course every second game? McDavid makes us look stupid. As I said before, "I have concerns".
