Louie DeBrusk is on Oilers Now right now, and it sure sounds like he has never watched a Flames game this season. He describes the Flames as "old and gritty," and as a team that the Oilers can beat with speed if they want to play that "grinding, slow-checking" style.

I love that no one in Edmonton has an answer for this.

I think we can gut this slugfest out without Tanev.

Let him rest the full series. We'll need him later against an actual good NHL team.

Nothing in the NHL is "for sure" a penalty, except over the glass and goalie playing the puck in the corner.
EVERYTHING else is debatable...

I had a few videos catch my eye, and I fell down the rabbithole a bit.

Thing is, for the concept to work with me, I had to be watching folks react to videos/music I knew well, and it was neat to see them. Seeing them become new fans of something reminded me why I was a fan of something.

You also get some great comments. One that stuck out was a 20-something lady's reaction to a video (of course, now I can't remember which one). She said "Oh! Christina Aguilera does that vocal trill! I wonder if the lady singing learned it from her." when the track was recorded before Aguilera was even born.

I also got a kick out of one of them listening to a Def Leppard track, saying it was a great song, wondering why he'd never heard it before, and wondering if they (Def Leppard) were a one hit wonder or something.

Here we are 7 years into his career with a high of 44 goals. Whomp whomp.

I have no doubt that they'll be much better in game 2.

Oilers on the other hand...last night was their ceiling. That was it. I mean, they scored 6 goals with McDrai contributing to pretty much every one of them. Usually that would be more than enough for that garbage team to win a hockey game. And yet they still lost.

The difference between Tkachuk and McDavid, after the game Tkachuk said " we played horrible defense and hung Marky out to dry. We need to pick it up next game." McDavid " I feel fine on the ice, I was fine on the ice."

Interesting stat:

McDavid was obviously double-shifted frequently and had a mishmash of linemates. He was most commonly lined with Draisaitl; next Kane. In third place -- Zack Kassian. Gotta think McDavid/coach wanted a goon on his line to deal with the Flames' physical play. Big win for the Flames. Play McDavid tough, force him to drag Kassian around instead of having him play with someone skilful.

ESPN has some great angles. This one clearly shows it

yeah per money puck at least the Oilers top 4 lines in order last night were
Kane Draisaitl McDavid
McDavid Draisaitl Kassian
Hyman RNH Yamamoto
Hyman RNH Pujularvi

that's quite something- mind you all of those combos were relatively short lived , playing between 2:42-4:00 as a combo. the 2 RNH versions fared ok

the Flames meanwhile just had the usual 4 lines, ranging from 6:40-12:25. the Backlund line. man what can you say

Kassian had zero hits last night. What exactly is he on the ice to do for the oilers?
