I mean sure, a lot of hockey fans hate the Oilers, but a big part of that is because of the media hype and how the league pushes McDavid and Draisaitl.

I agree there is an oilers bias on CBC. I’m not sure why though, it must be McDavid. Having said that though, on the intermission panel is a former lifelong Canuck, Hrudey who played his best years in Los Angeles and Frieman, a Torontonian. What’s said on the cameras, I am almost certain they never say in private. I mean cmon Kevin Bieksa just suddenly became an oilers fan? I don’t buy it. Likely it’s more of an overcompensation for the fact he is not an oilers fan in any way.

I think the Flames are the better team and should win in 6 games but I picked 7 games because the Flames just can't do things the easy way. If the officiating is terrible I could see the Oilers winning in 6 or 7 as well as the Flames haven't been able to stop them on the powerplay.

On the panel, Bieksa seems to be the guy who doesn't buy into the hype.
Actually I mostly dread Maclean in this series. Freidman doesn't really do too much to bug me and Hrudey just seems to buy into star power. Amber is a closet Oilers fan though.

This is a total mirage though, the Kings stat keepers are well-known to inflate the kings shots on a nightly basis.

I'm dreading Maclean on the panel, the guy is a hack and a weasel. I keep hoping that he's aggressively put out of our misery.
I actually like Bieksa, he does tell it like it is. Friedman is now that guy that reads which way the wind blows and then frames his points around it, and right now the Wind is blowing McDavid and the Oilers who are the league darlings.

As far as I can tell, the Oilers have one player who's won the cup (albeit multiple times) and he's bloody ancient and not very good. Calgary has Lucic, Toffoli, Coleman, Lewis. And all of them are pretty good still. Some more than just good.

I've poured through the advanced stats and the data all last night and into the afternoon. I think when you factor in xgoals/corsi x fenwick and you square root the PDO and quadruple the DZ% then it all becomes pretty obvious that the Oilers just suck because, well, they're the Oilers.

After LA's most dominant period they still bent themselves in pretzels to make the Oilers sound good.
I'd advise not to watch the panel. It'll be some toxic #### this round.
Unless they shred them beyond a shadow of a doubt. Then it could be fun.

The Flames will be up 4-1 after Period 1, and McLean will preemptively bring up McDavid's Round One stats before the panel speaks, despite him being a -4 in the period.

Interesting conversation between Vernon and Francis on 960 including about Theo's slide and how many veterans on the Flames didn't like it. Gave the Oilers fuel and they hadn't one anything at that point.
Which has always been my view on it. I hate seeing replays of that goal. It only matters if you win game 7. They didn't. So it's just a dude making a fool of himself.

I also like that Oettinger is of similar stature to Smith.
They're now well practiced at 'solving' a huge goalie standing on his head and Smith has nowhere near the athleticism of JO.

Knowing our luck, Smith somehow, someway goes full Oettinger mode.

This is absolutely the correct viewpoint. Yes it was playoffs, but man, you didn't win ####. You don't slide 3/4 of the ice in celebration unless that was the elimination goal...
But even then, you celebrate WITH your teammates. You don't skate AWAY from them.
Imagine how cringey it would have been if Johnny started skating away from everyone last night to celebrate himself.

I don’t think it gets that high because we’ll be up by 6 in half that, we probably cool it down a bit and conserve energy for the next game.

Flames in 5. They will get the pucks in and pressure the defense just like the Dallas series.
The no-goods dont have a Heiskinen, Klingberg, Suter of HAkanpaa to withstand that. and Smith wont make the same saves Ottinger made.
If pissy is out they dont really have the offensive horses either.

It did not give the Oilers fuel. They were down 3-0 immediately in Game 7.

I love seeing replays of that slide because I know the series result.
