It's hard to tell what Tanev injured. Not his head, maybe shoulder? Maybe sternum or something.
It really destabilizes the D group if he's out. Hopefully he can go for game 7.

A race horse can’t just turn it off.
A pro athlete doesn’t just stop trying in the playoffs because his coach gave him a direction instruction. Especially for offensive players, they instinctually attack the puck and try to bury it. They can’t stop.

Flames have 56.2% expected goals for (22-17)
Those are all second in the playoffs only to Colorado, the Flames have dominated I pretty much every way outside of shooting percentage.
Flames have shot 5.45% which is last of all playoff teams.
The only thing Dallas has dictated is Oettinger playing great while also having a bunch of luck this series.
Last night Dallas did dictate play for the first time in the series, but that’s to be expected when you are facing elimination. That’s a tough team that wasn’t going to roll over.

Thanks for the stats and I agree that the Flames have outplayed the Stars with the exception of last night. What I really hate though is putting poor shooting percentage down to bad luck or being "goalie'd". Several Flames including Gaudreau, Toffoli, Jarnkrok, Tkachuk and Stone had half a net to shoot at and a sure goal if they do anything other than hot Oettinger. Too close in for him to react.
It's like running the table in a game if 8-ball and screwing up the final shot over and over. That's not bad luck. It's tensing up and choking when time comes to finish off your opponent. The Leafs are the exact same story. Get through this first round and it should become a different story but feeling too much pressure so far.

What I mean by "dictate play" is that Dallas seems content to bog down the game to low event, extremely tight, perimeter hockey. Flames high pressure, fast paced hockey has been kept under wraps by Dallas.
Clearly it's working for Dallas, and it allows each game to essentially be a coin flip.
Flames worked all year to win the division, get home ice. In the end, it feels disappointing that it feels like it's all for a coin toss, thanks to Dallas getting to play their scheme to a T and the flames just playing into their game plan.

If that happens and Tanev can't play, it's going to make game 7 that much more difficult.

Players in their heads, though they'd never say it, should be extra motivated by the fact that next round *should* be easier, at least in being able for the team to play its own style that made them successful in the regular season.
LA or Edmonton has nowhere near the discipline to carry out and stick with the suffocating defensive system the way the Stars have.
Tanev injury is huge. That whole sequence just a cluster, all negated if Kylington isn't all over the place with his skating and body positioning and sweep the puck into the corner. Tanev had to come back and help cover and somewhere in the dice or stretch or fall, he gets a serious enough injury.

Might be broken ribs for tanev. Guy jumped on his back and rode him like a sled.

Tanev is a big loss but honestly they still have what it takes to win Sunday and I’m confident they can get it done. Like they’ve all been saying in the interviews it’s tough to close out series… except now? Now Dallas has that problem in Calgary and the building will be loud. If the Flames get that first one the building will explode and Dallas will be in deep trouble. And frankly even if Dallas scores first, the Flames will still have a shot. I’m confident they can get er done.

What Dallas has accomplished is only possible because their goaltender has been the best of the playoffs. If Oettinger is just average the Flames win this in 5 or 6 games. It's really disappointing that the Flames may lose a series due to the opposition goaltender stealing the series but it happens to a lot of good teams. Just bad timing unfortunately.

Kylington and Gudbranson pairing? Stone and Mackey?
What are the recall rules if both Zadarov and Tanev are out.

Friedman just tweeted that he's hearing Zadorov will.
Garbage.
He doesn't target the head. He hits the head and chest same time, and even if it's the head, it's by a millisecond over the rest of the body.
Refs didn't even call a penalty.
Is every check to the head penalty now a hearing? No hearing for the hit to head of Johnny earlier.

Those very numbers take the choke label away in my mind.
Teams that carve out 57% of those breakdowns have shown up, and likely should have won the series in five.

Well at least Big Z will be well rested for Round 2.
He was the best dman out there last night.
Hanifin better bring it. He's been pretty average all series.

They do and Flames have been dominant enough to win in 5.
Flames aren't choking. Flames choked after Backlund and Frolik didn't put the game away in OT vs Colorado Game 2 and team didn't show up the next 3 games.
But, one game sudden death now opens up the possibility that some fluke, single slip, bad luck bounce off the glass, missed penalty or anything else that hasn't yet gone wrong for the Flames (or,not right) in the series, happening, inexpecibly finishes the season. This would be a travesty.

Playoffs is a different game. If he is trying, he is just not good enough
