This is a conversation for after the playoffs. If it's next week then I think both players are gone. If it's after a 2nd round loss it's a toss up. If it's deeper there's a good chance one or both will be back.

Tre will be fired the day after the team exits if it's next week. He's already on borrowed time. No way they let him make FA signings.

This is quite likely true.
Given the probability of a recovery from 3-1 down in the series, it is quite likely that a lot realistically hinges on Monday's game.
- Johnny and Chucky's contracts
- Sutter
- Tre
It's a big game.

I don’t think that will happen. Winning the division likely saved him unless ownership had made the call to rebuild and if that is the case then they will likely clean house. I have a hard time seeing that happening.

I'd just take a series win at this point please.
If we can't win when they're each making 7M or less...

It all depends on if you feel there is a better candidate.
But Tre has had his shot. Probably time for someone else to bring something new.

Not sure I want either guy back. Neither one bothers to show up for the playoffs (on the rare occasions that we make them). And who was the moron who declared tkachuk as “the heart of the flames”? Might be the dumbest player on the team with how easy it is to throw him off his game.

With Johnny and Tkachuk, we may not win a playoff
Without them, we will not be in the playoffs for a long time
Take your choice

BT will be replaced with a worse manager. I would prefer he lead the team through a rebuild and correct the mistakes he made the first time.

Tre has some glaring holes in his talent assessment skills. Maybe they are correctable, maybe not.

Agree this team without Johnny and Tkachuk misses the playoffs for years.

If they aren’t replaced with top line talent, of course.
Leafs miss without Matthews and Marner. Oilers miss without McAvi and Rai. On and on.

If we lose in round one, I would still keep Sutter and Tre. Sign Johnny and trade Chucky. The return for Chucky will hopefully fix two things on the team which is missing so far this playoffs - a middle 6 player that can actually drive a line and a top line forward that shows up in the playoffs.
Johnny has actually been ok so far this series. Lindholm has been good. Chucky has been bad.

He's still making the same mistakes. Wasting high draft picks on over-30 vets like Toffoli and Jarnkrok that have zero impact is what has left the Flames with one of the worst prospect bases in the league. If the Flames clean house after another massive first round embarrassment, then he needs to go too

I think Johnny would be fine if Tkachuk was the type of player who elevates his play in the playoffs. I think Tkachuk can but he just hasn't learned that stepping up in the playoffs is NOT about intensifying the shenanigans. He started off good in the 1st period of game 1, then he got into his little games and completely jumped off the tracks.

Both of those guys were discussed for weeks here, with a vast majority saying they were just the thing needed, and some saying they were so good that they must have been Sutter picks and not Treliving’s.
Wheeler has the Flames ranked right in the middle for prospect pools. And Wolf is now a top 5 prospect in some rankings.

I love a little Tre bashing but this year he deserves credit for putting together a good regular season team. I don't blame him at all for the Toffoli deal, as it was relatively cheap. Where I blame him completely was last off-season. The core three of Monahan, Tkachuk, Gaudreau was clearly not sized for the playoffs, based on totally getting dominated each year before. It was clear as day. Having said that, Gaudreau's regular season really was special and came out of nowhere. And he's shown me he should be part of the core, but as your second option, much like Marner is for the Leafs. Can't expect a guy not particularly strong and undersized, to be your first option. So what's his appropriate cost given where he'll contribute in the future? I'd say ~$8.5M.
Tkachuk really does have a unique skillset, but at this point I'd dangle him at the draft in a sign and trade scenario. Would Ottawa like the guy to play with his brother? Perfect.
This team has a very average defence core and is limited on high end talent, and that high end talent and high end defence can really only be acquired through the draft. It's a very very tough place to be right now.
Additionally, how they move on from Monahan will be extraordinarily key for how they spend money in the future. They absolutely cannot be giving out crazy contracts so guys stay in the city. If Gaudreau wants the world ($11M+), let him walk.

It’s a contract year for Johnny so of course he’s motivated to do well and maximize what will be the biggest dollar contract of his career. I think he’ll regress a bit next year, back to previous years levels for points/goals.
We are seeing peak Johnny and I do not think he is worth more than 8M x 6 to the Flames. I doubt he’ll get a better offer from another team he would be willing to move to.

The Flyers are going to back up the Brinks truck for him. Maybe the Devils too.

I'm sure Gaudreau is just dying to get out of Calgary so he can go to a proven winner like Philly.
