Default Furnace/Vent Cleaners in Calgary

Kind of an odd topic yes... but I just got finished drywalling/taping/mudding/sanding my basement and the dust is just unbelievable. Seriously, we can dust and then two days later it looks like we haven't done a thing, it's magic really.

In order to keep my girlfriend (and myself) sane I need to get someone in to clean out the furnace and all the vents.

Have any of you guys/gals had any good experiences with certain companies in Calgary? Can you quote me the price you paid if you remember as well?

Thanks all... I'm never doing drywalling again.

I always use Ram, I know, they are mainly known for carpet cleaning etc, but they do furnace cleaning as well.

They will have packages, it all depends on how many registers and cold air returns you have. My house is almost 4000 square feet, so I dont think my price would be applicable, unless we have identical heating systems. The package also includes cleaning of your hot water tanks and of course the furnace filters, stuff like that too.

So phone them up and tell them what you have and have them give you a quote.

Thanks for the suggestion Red, my house isn't quite 4000 sq feet, but as long as they did a good job I'll call 'em up.

Dumb question, but did they do a before an after thing? ie) show you how much dirt/dust they sucked from the vents?

I used Castle maintenance, and they were really good. It was scary to see some of the stuff that came out of my ducts.

My place is 2400 sq feet, and I *think* it was around $120. It was 2 years ago, so yeah.

They didn't really show a before and after thing, but you could hear all the crap being sucked out of our ducts.

Default Furnace Cleaning

In anticipation of our new baby my wife and I thought I would be a good idea to get the Furnace cleaned.

Does anyone here have some one they use that they are happy with. We do have central air conditioning too, so I am unsure how that effects the cleaning.

Any recommendations out there?

I can't believe two furnace cleaning threads were created within an hour of each other.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll check 'em out. My co-worker originally suggested SEARs and said it would be $400-$600 ... which scared the hell outta me.

They do an excellent job. What they did in my mechanical room was this, and they use this for an access every time they clean my ducts and vents, which I try to have done at least once every 2 years. For sure, anyone moving into a new house should have it done, you would not believe the junk left in new houses that circulates until you get rid of it.

Now back to what they did. They cut oh, maybe 6" x 6" hole, perhaps 8" x 8" hole in the main duct going into the furnace. The hole of course gets screwed back together again so the duct does not leak after they are gone. Then they use that to put in a hose that has a small rotating brush, like those things they put on the ends of drills? sort of wirey looking? And that brush is on a hose that they can push far in your duct and it spins of course to get the old stuff up so it gets sucked out. When you initially have it done, you will literally hear things being sucked up.

And of course, you can see the before and after with your furnace filter once it gets cleaned too. Not too hard to notice the difference.

It has always been my experience that Ram has been very prompt and efficient over the years, not to say that others dont do a good job, but they are the ones I have used and have been more than satisfied.

I swear by them for rug cleaning, especially emergency spot removal ( I wont go into specifics but I have 3 English Springer Spaniels and one of them has an especially good nose for finding cougar kills ( I live in the country) and then a sore tummy and other problems ensue, sometimes in the house((

Just a bump.

We used Castle and I feel that we got ripped off. Any other recent suggestions? Ram sounds pretty good.

As I said previously in this thread, Ram has done a good job for me. They also clean your hot water tanks as part of the package.

We used Castle as well a couple of months ago. Bill was around $270, and my house is 2200 sq. ft. I swear they were here no more than 1/2 an hour. Doesn't seem worth it to me.
