Thumbs down TV Broadcast

For those of us Flames Fans here in B.C., last night's broadcast was a disaster. Initially, we recorded the game on CBC (Sportsnet feed). As a result of the Rangers/Penguin's O.T. we joined the Flames at the six minute mark. Then they switched back to the O.T. and we next joined the Flames midway through the second period. We switched to Sportsnet 1, picked up the Flames only to have them switch to the O.T. We moved to Sportsnet Pacific only to have them do the same; switch to the O.T. In the end we saw about a period and half of the game. What a bunch of b.s. Very frustrating

It'll be the way for the 1st round. Hopefully it's better for round 2 and on

There's no excuse. There's several Sportnet channels. Surely one of them can be dedicated to the games in the West. This is b.s.

Sportsnet West is dedicated to the Flames games. Use that one!

Sportsnet West carried the Flames game in it's entirety; including the anthems. I also noticed tickets showing what channel to go to for which game.

Thanks, I'll try that but sometimes we're blocked on all but Pacific and 1.

The block should only apply to the regular season. The playoff games are a "national" broadcast, so all of the Sportsnet channels are available.

I know it would have been frustrating last night, but better than 10 years ago when you could only watch the games that CBC had. Now every playoff series is available.

I have Shaw Blue Curve and I do not have an option to select which channel gets recorded when setting up a series of recordings. I can select "Flames" and "HD" but that is it. I guess I will have to be sure to just do manual recording on SNW from now on.

I ran into this last year when I paid for Centre Ice. Any series recording I set up would default to SNW and not the Centre Ice channel. I called Shaw and they had no suggestions for me at the time. Do not think anything has changed there.

Yeah I thought it was bunk the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation all about Canadian content playing two American teams over a Flames game. The US game should have been moved to another Sportsnet channel once it went to OT. NO WAY that happens to the Leafs or Canadiens. Rogers and Sportsnet don't care, Im just glad I use streaming services to watch the Flames being in BC, so it was the same as usual. Just sucked for me cause it was buffering when the only goal in the game happened.

Even 10 years ago cbc would move their cbc Calgary channel to the late game. And between cbc and TSN, every series was on tv.

Even with SN W switching its a dick move not to switch over cbc since it’s the channel everyone gets. Although that also explain why SN didn’t. Gotta pay for that contract somehow.

Now, 25 years ago, you’d have been stuck waiting until the early game was over.

It was disgusting. Thankfully I pay for Sportsnet West.

So, next game I'll record Sportsnet West and we'll see if we get the game. Thanks for all the input.

Back in 89 Oiler Fans missed half their game 7 because of Flames/Canucks

Weird cause RDTV showed Oilers playoff games back in the day I'd watch during intermissions.

The Sportsnet NOW app on iOs (I assume Android as well) solves this... you can "Restart" the game on a digital feed, which is what I have to do since I don't have traditional cable with a PVR, even if you can't be there right on time for the start of the game, like me last night.

If you are there on time, it allows you to "Watch Live" even if it's not on your channel, as long as you have rights to do so.

I'll say, that SN-NOW started off clunky and troublesome, but the past few months it seems to be very reliable.

this is a huge gear grinder for me. why on earth would i want to record the "this is blocked becuz of a region broadcast" channel and not the centre ice channel - it makes no sense at all.

it still amazes me that we've had the technology for over 50 years to send men to the moon yet my pvr will automatically record a blocked channel and not the channel i pay extra for.

during the playoffs i always just manually set the pvr to record snw.

Ya I was also watching from BC and this grinds my gears. I have a SN Now subscription (crap service that it is) so was able to watch on my laptop during the three periods of overtime.

CBC's mandate is supposed to be to broadcast Canadian content but I assume Rogers is interfering here as they're the rights holder. Not everybody has a sports package though which is why the Canadian game should have been on CBC instead of two American teams duking it out. Boo Rogers and boo CBC for caving.

I would recommend streaming the game from CBC website. Unless that's been blacked out for your region

Man, that's terrible and makes no sense by SN as others have said. I'm in Vancouver but I also subscribe to NHL Live and watched the Flames game there from the start. Switched back to SN1 a little later once the game was on that channel.
