I'd say it was very effective embellishment then, suckering the ref into the call, Raffl into engaging with him, as well as tricking the fans too!

I mean he did embellish though. It's Chucky's game to embellish. He doesn't fabricate penalties like those dweeb up north but he 100% tries to draw attention to anything against him. He went down easy is all I'm saying on that play. I also think it was the smart play to do so. He suckered a penalty and still got in the scrap. I have no issue with him or really with what Hrudey said.

Let's be honest........we all know Chucky has embellished over the years. Many times. I don't believe that play was a dive. If you disagree that's totally fine, but I've seen enough of his antics to believe he was legit tripped up. Just my 2 cents.

I feel like he went down really easy on that one, for sure.

I think that's fair. He has him behind the knees. I personally don't think he tugs hard enough for him to go down with the kick up the way he did but I can also see the argument that maybe he legit just fell. Either way I don't think Hrudey seeing it differently than you, and saying so, as something totally egregious on his part.

Anyways, 2 great quotes:

Stars G Jake Oettinger, on the atmosphere:
"It was awesome. Such a great fanbase here in Calgary. I don't know if I've ever been as fired up as I was in the first period there. It was just such a fun atmosphere to play in. It's only going to get better from here on out."

Blake Coleman on tonight:
"It gave me goosebumps on the bench a little bit. It was pretty awesome before the anthem and just coming out, just those couple of seconds before the anthem was was pretty bone chilling. That’s what it’s all about. That’s why we play this game."

Love that the dome was rocking and playing a factor tonight. Hope to hear/see it get louder and louder every game.

lol, I especially loved this post ATL HFOil take

Quote:
Anybody else notice when Flames were in trouble in third that Tanev just skates along and knocks the net off the post for a whistle and then looks back at ref to see if theres a delay of game call? of course not. Its the type of play Flames are allowed to make anytime they feel they have to. The NHL wants the Flames to have success, further to possibilities of a new arena. Flames are good but they get every edge from officiating and constant interference.

I think Chucky was waiting to get shoved or a facewashed or something, not hooked behind the leg. Again......we've all seen MT embellish before. It didn't look like it that time at all. To me. I have no problem calling out his dives.

Hrudey's comments were silly because of all the antics going on at the end of the period, including two possible instigating penalties for the Stars, he was trying to be the 'both sides' guy and trying to say maybe things should be evened up over an extremely soft embellishment call, and he even sounded like he wasn't sure......just asking questions. It was weird.

Dallas had 20 hits on the Flames......Nashville had 59 hits on the Avs. I think the Flames are fortunate to play Dallas, as Flames will be fresher and healthier for a long sustained run.

The wave historically is bad MOJO in a 1 goal game with 5 mins left . The wave is best left for a multi goal lead.

I guess. I think Hrudey is fine and I think people just generally seem to assume the worst especially when he's doing national. For me I think he genuinely just says what he's thinking even if it isn't fully formed. Like you said he wasn't even sure and I think he phrased it that way in a question format as well.

I think two instigators would have been a stretch as I think Tkachuk instigated contact with Raffl and was quick to fight. Pretty mutual there. Klingberg could have gotten one for sure though.

Oiler fan in ATL:

"These Flames are pretenders... barely squeaking by this Dallas team... Avs or Blues will completely bury them."

Anyone know what precedes that round?

Is unsportsmanlike conduct considered an instigator penalty? Which I assume is the trip.

If a 1-0 win isn't the signature of a Sutter-coached playoff team, then I don't know what is.

Thanks to everyone for the advice of for the Dos and Don’ts at a flames game.

I keep seeing “do whatever you want, as long as you’re having fun”.

I’ll keep that in mind when I wear florescent green shirt, get up during the play to go get a beer, come back to my seats from the long side of the aisle (during play of course), spray my beer on the people around me when something exciting happens, spend the entire game loudly talking to my buddy about non-hockey related stuff, have me and my friends stop to chat in the middle of the 200 level walkways, stand up in the middle of play to turn around and wave to the camera so my friends see me on tv etc

From reading that other thread I thought you were a bunch of conformist nazis but now I see that anything goes, as long as I’m having fun, so I appreciate the encouragement to do whatever I want at games.
