Remember when the Phoneix Suns basically destroyed everyone in the bubble and looked like the team of the future?

... Wait

And the Raptors erase a 24 point deficit... They don't make it easy on themselves but it is occasionally awesome.

Might be nice but the 76ers aren't losing to the Pacers and Pistons to finish the year.

We get Philly in the first round, as expected. It will be a fun series! We will have to bring incredible defensive intensity every single possession.

Are the Sacramento Kings the most irrelevant team in the 4 major professional sports leagues? Yet another losing season miles out of the playoffs. Most people in California likely don't know they exist.

I’m genuinely shocked we haven’t seen any relocation threats directed their way

their main claim to fame is that Shaq called them the Queens once.

Speaking of Shaq..

He predicts a Sixer sweep over the Raps while on TNT.

I think if the Raptors can get a split in the first two games in Philly, they'll win in six. I think asking the Sixers to win a game in Toronto without Matisse is a tall order.

Shaq is perhaps the worst regular basketball analyst on TV. I'm not sure he even watches basketball anymore. His job is basically to be a big, dumb, lovable goof who says "he needs to be aggressive" as many times as possible throughout halftime. Seems to have no idea who even plays for either team - doesn't appear to know who Thybulle even is, thought Pascal and Siakam were two different people last time the Raps were in the playoffs. The guy is a walking joke, but it's a funny joke, and people enjoy watching it.

He loves Embiid, though, so the prediction is unsurprising.

I think almost any outcome is possible except a sweep, and I doubt the Raptors win in 5. It's entirely possible that Philly wins both at home and then one of the Toronto games Harden's shots fall and Embiid does Embiid things and they go home up 3-1. It's also possible that the thing goes 7 games.

My biggest concern here is the whistle. I think that could very easily be what gets the sixers through. I have no faith that Pascal (or even guys like Precious or OG or Barnes) will get calls, especially in the first half of games and the last 2 minutes. The team has shown it can come back from big deficits but the playoffs are different.

Agree on all counts. I would give Philly a 55% chance of winning personally, but they have a very streaky team with big question always surrounding Embiid, and this year not knowing what Harden will show up as he’s the man, and I’m not sure if he’ll be mature enough to distribute it when he has something to prove. I really like that the Raps finished the season strong where their self confidence is high. The tipping point could be the league wanting Philly to finally do something. But I think Barnes and Trent Jr. will be favourable size wise to handling Philly. I think each game will be within a four point spread. Either Toronto in 7 or Philly in 6.

It will be very interesting to see how Nurse handles Embiid. I imagine we want to go with our top five guys as starters, but they may have to put Achiuwa in there at some point if Embiid is dominating.

The series could come down to that matchup of slowing down Embiid vs the output of whoever Embiid is guarding on the other end.

And of course a lot comes down to Harden and if he decides to play like an MVP calibre player or not.

This is true, and in addition to Ranadive's wealth, the NBA also views him as a really important partner. They've got a big interest in growing the game in India as an emerging media market, and Ranadive is an important partner there.

Plus, despite the futility of the on-court product, attendence there is still on par with other small-market teams. And the NBA wouldn't want to lose out on the huge expansion fees by relocating the Kings to one of the high-profile expansion cities like Las Vegas or Seattle.

If anyone wants a deep read on this series and the matchups, I think this is a great piece:

https://www.raptorsrepublic.com/2022...layoff-series/

I think the analysis is spot-on in its conclusions; that Philadelphia is the better team, but the Raptors may have more paths to victory in terms of things they can do to swing the series to their favour.

I assume that Nick Nurse is nowhere near stupid enough to take that job.
