They are playing much better defensively tonight. Yandle was obviously the problem.

Might have lost 7-3 if he played instead of 6-3

I always assumed iron man streaks were because you play soft.

It can be, but a Doug Jarvis was the opposite of soft.

I think Yeo is the worst NHL head coach ever that's received as many opportunities as he has had but at the same time I don't think any head coach should have to cater to the priorities of one player over what's best for the team. The guy is -39 for crying out loud so I don't have any issues with a coach that puts a player this bad in the pressbox.

There was just no gain, team looks bad to players around the league... including their own players who are pissed. Still lost by 3 goals and haven't played a meaningful game in months.

Should have scratched him after Game 999.

They have next season to play for. Darryl didn’t give up on the Flames last season when they got eliminated. You need to keep it professional even when the games don’t matter in the standings.

Exactly, it's more important to the Flyers to get a look at what they have on the farm and it's not like Yandle is a Flyers legend.

I get all your guy's points...players around the league aren't happy about it though. Not worth it because of that...who even played in his spot?

Philadelphia Flyers center Kevin Hayes wasn’t happy with management’s decision to bench Keith Yandle on Saturday and halt his streak of consecutive games.

And it seems to me, he lived his life
like a Yandle in the wind.
Never knowing who his man was
When the puck went in.
I would’ve liked the Flames to sign him,
But I was just a kid.
Keith Yandle sat out long before
Phil Kessel ever did.

The point of being an iron man should be that you are NHL worthy. If the team is continuously keeping your streak alive for you out of charity its not really a streak IMO. If this whole iron man thing wasn't going on he likely wouldn't of even played much this year. They got him to the record and they owe him nothing more, you can't keep a team at gun point to keep playing a guy who otherwise wouldn't be in the line up.

Multiple players past and present have said its a D move (paraphrasing)
again I understand all of your points...personally I don't think it's worth the negative press. What exactly did they gain last night? They already played him 67 games they should have just finished it off. Besides losing helps you right now, if he is that bad play him more.

This guy should've been benched last year when he was with the Panthers, he sucked ass even back then. Bad player and especially bad example for the younger guys on how to play the game. The negative press the Panthers got when the rumors started rumors circulating that he'll get benched (I think he was an extra on one game day warmup) was so overwhelming that they put him back in the lineup and played him as an extra D for the rest of the season, mainly using him as a PP specialist. He held the team hostage with his streak and they were forced to buy him out in the summer.
It's a dumb streak to begin with but ironic as hell when you have Yandle's name attached to it. The guy would willingly give up the puck just to avoid an incoming tackle.

Playing 11 more games was really no big deal. Yes, he is terrible but he isn't the reason the team sucks. The team sucks because they are poorly built. Keeping him in isn't going to make or break the organization. Let him get to 1000 then forget about him.
It was obviously important to him. Sitting him instead of helping him reach the final 11 games is a jerk move and it sends a message across the league. If I'm getting the exact same offer from Philadelphia as I was from almost any other team I would turn down Philadelphia. This as an example of how they treat their players and players do notice these things.

He played about a 100 games too many because he was able to hold both the Panthers and the Flyers hostage with his streak. At this point I'm sure there are no skeletons left in the closet for anyone in the league, everyone knows that Yandle is a replacement level player and teams force fed him the #1 spot on the ironman list. Manufacturing another milestone for reaching 1000 games would be nothing short of embarrassing. Not to mention it would undermine the whole point of having milestones, even if sad ones like the ironman.
