Apparently they've been friends for years and according to P Diddy they are still friends and this won't affect that

Weird.
"Hey Will, remember that time you slapped me and cussed me out in front of all of Hollywood and millions of people and turned me into a meme?"
"My man, good times."

Hmmm, well if diddy says it then it must be true
"You two better make up or I'll do to you what I did to Tupac"

Smith and Diddy have very different definitions for the word “hit”…
And neither are related to music.

Will Smith has been box office poison for pretty much the last decade+

If it was fake, no one told the Academy. They've opened up a review of the incident

What? The Academy dont have the Internet? The whole world has been 'reviewing the incident' all day.
What is there to review? He read a scripted, vetted and presumably approved joke off the teleprompter and Smith lost his mind.
Review complete.
What are they going to do about it? Nothing.
Its not worthy of rescinding the award, Rock is almost certainly not pressing charges, the only thing I can imagine they can do is outfit the seats in the theater with those bars from amusement park rides so only the authorized attendants can let people out of their seats.

This was about Will Smith.

The only thing I can give Will is that I've had friends in bad relationships before where they feel like they can do no right in the eyes of their wife, and they can make horrible decisions trying to win that affection, or trying to salvage the relationship.
I know that this wasn't "staged" but I still think it's weird how prepared Chris Rock seemed to be to get slapped. Hands behind his back, neck ready, turned his head to absorb the smack. He didn't seem surprised by this, and seemed ready.

I guess they could revoke his award. Meanwhile people like Mel Gibson, Roman Polanski, Woody Allen keep theirs and maybe continuing earning new ones.

Pretty unlikely. Kevin Spacey and Roman Polanski say ”hello”

I meant from the perspective of having Oscars revoked because of bad behaviour. I mean, Polanski was awarded one with them knowing his history.

Aladdin from 2019 is his highest grossing movie ever with over a $1bn worldwide. 3 others from the last decade (Men in Black 3, Suicide Squad, Bad Boys for Life) are in his top 10.
He has now apologised to Rock on Instagram - https://deadline.com/2022/03/will-sm...ck-1234989591/

Franchise or legacy movies that have Will Smith in them do fine, as one would expect them to.
Movies that star Will Smith flop and have one right after the other for over ten years. King Richard probably would've bombed too even without covid.
