Just one more reason why these muppets should never be celebrated for anything other than pretending to be someone they are not.
Will was either training for Muhammad Ali 2, or that was his first hit since Gettin' Jiggy wit It.

This is the very culture that allows Harvey Weinstein to happen.

That seems a little hollow from the Academy considering that they give out awards to Actors, Directors, Producers etc. who have previous assault charges.

So medical condition is the only line we don't cross?

A joke about someone's thick glasses would be a no-no, but a holocaust joke is okay?

Right..

Do you know how many Stephen Hawking jokes have been made on stand up sets and on TV over the years?

You know what Stephen Hawking always did? Made a clever or cheeky retort.

Rock's a comedian.

This is his job. The celebs know exactly what's coming when he steps up to the mic.

I repeat - this is his job.

And it's alopecia. Likely brought on herself through years of weaves, rolls, and the variety of hairstyles she has had. This is about as crippling as halitosis. If we can't make fun of hair loss and bad breath than we really can't poke fun at anything.

I dont even really know how to address this.

It was a nothing-burger. The rest of the room chortled politely.

I agree with the other poster who indicated that if they didnt like it, take it up with Rock later in the event and give him a chance to address it.

Climbing on stage and bitchslapping his soul out of him is not, in any way, condonable.

Frankly it makes them come across as unstable crazy people.

There are a number of lines that are no longer allowed to be crossed in PC comedy, these consist of but are not limited to: race, religion, weight, rape, mental health, sexual orientation and medical conditions.

Will Smith will let his wife take other men's d!cks but their jokes are not allowed.

No, it's not, she has an immune disorder. That'd be liking making fun of someone because they are deaf, or have down's. Not cool.

Alopecia areata is a condition that causes sudden hair loss in patches. “The condition is developed after the immune system attacks the hair follicles, resulting in hair loss, which cannot be observed easily. These patches connect and then become observable,” Dr Vijay Singhal, Senior Consultant, Dermatology, Sri Balaji Action Medical Institute said.

Not to mention it's Hollywood, where 'hair' is so very often wigs, extensions, etc.
By the way, does this mean bald dudes can start slapping the sh-t out of people who make jokes at their expense for having the audacity to lose their hair through genetic predisposition? Or is this kind of emotional fragility only a rich Hollywood d-bag thing?

My guess is that Rock didn't actually know about the alopecia thing, and probably wouldn't have made that joke if he did.

I see a lot of support for Smith in social media. Way more than I expected. Bad joke or not you just can't do that and I can't understand the mentality of people that think that violence can be justified in this case.

Or he did know about the condition but made the joke anyway because he's a comedian and thought the people in the audience would be mature enough to know it's a joke.

We know that the Hollywood clique is going to circle around Smith and protect him, and probably villify Rock. I mean which one of them is money and a true A lister.

As someone pointed out, Hollywood protects their own as long as they bring in lots of money.

You'll also find plenty of Chris Brown supporters on social media so I'm not sure why you're surprised.

A lot of it comes down to who you are and your delivery as to what you can get away with now.

Gervais crossed every line imaginable and does so routinely on his comedy tours. His entire ####ing joke book is out of the no-no list. And people eat it up.

Guys like him and Galifinakis get away with the weight jokes because they've embodied it themselves, and you could argue their self-depricating fat humour it even helped springboard their careers.

I think when the jokes come from someone who's extraordinarily comfortable with directing the same offensive jokes at themselves and has the delivery/timing down to a science the audience will overlook the ill-natured jokes every day of the week.

Comedians who are self-made, self-respecting guys on stage who try to straddle that same line get much more backlash for it.

Generally it seems, if you can take a punch, the audience is more lenient to let you dish one.

It's an interesting topic/issue to dissect.

It would have been awesome if Rock had dodged the slap and clocked Smith.
Cuz that's what Smith deserved.
