Coronato had a hot start, tailed off a little, but then finished strong. Great to see that strong finish.
Hopefully one more college season, and then this time next year we see him sign and join the team down the stretch.

That's my train of though too; hopefully he continues his strong play at the rescheduled World Juniors this summer. Absolutely no rush however. Let him have a more complete dominating season in year two.

Coronato is a late birthday so some extra development there as well.

Also worth noting that Coronato led his team in scoring despite being the youngest player, while Zegras was 3rd on his team.
Zegras played in Hockey East though, IIRC that is a tougher division than the ECAC in which Coronato plays?

I seem to recall that the ECAC was said to be the weakest division.

No, Atlantic Hockey is the weakest Conference by far. They only ever send one team to the NCAA Tournament and that's their champion because it's an automatic berth. The other Conferences are all pretty even, but it's no different than the NHL where the relative strengths shift from year to year.
For example, Boston College and Boston University used to be dominant for a long time, but they've both been weaker in recent years. Providence used to be weak, but since Nate Leaman took over, they've become a pretty consistent team -- winning the tournament with Jankowski and Gillies.
Even if the ECAC is a little weaker, Harvard still ends up playing a lot of non-Conference games against Hockey East because of their location. Every year, they participate in the Beanpot tournament with the other 3 Boston-area teams and hold their own.

Probably smart for him to go for another year at Harvard. Beats riding the bus in the AHL.

This isn’t just about the player either. His representative’s reputation with NHL executives is also on the line if things go sideways, so there are numerous levels of trust.
Neither of these topics were ever in the scenario with Johnny or Fox, which makes sense. With both being later round picks, yes the team selected them, but not with an extremely high value pick. When the time to sign came around it was obvious both would be first round picks in a re-draft, changing the negotiation.
Ultimately it’s about fostering the trust to build a partnership that benefits both parties.

Thanks for clearing that up, I was sure that somebody on this site was saying that-perhaps the ECAC was having a downturn for a few years or something. Either way, this makes MC's stats all the more tantalizing. He's a different player than Zegras, but it would be nice if he was anything close to that ballpark.

Trevor Zegras had 36 pts in 33 games in his first (and only) year in college-a ppg of 1.09. Coronato has 36 pts in 34 games for a ppg of 1.05.
Alex Turcotte, the highly touted prospect for LA had 26 pts in 29 games.
Cole Caufield had 36 in 36, with 19 goals.
Matt Boldy had 26 in 34.
Bobby Brink, who is small but was very popular with scouts in his draft year, had 24 pts in 28 games in his first year in college. He was drafted 34th overall in 2019 by Philly.

on HNIC Friedman said the Flames plan to talk to Coronato over the next couple of days but it is widely believed Coronato is going back to Harvard.
Also said that he knows Flames fans are worried given the history with Adam Fox but doesn't get the sense the Flames are worried about it, at all

I see Pelletier making the jump next year, and hopefully Coronato the year after that hopefully.

Pelletier and Zary both put in two more Junior seasons after they were drafted.
Coronato should absolutely rip up the ECAC next season.

Zary only played one season back in junior after being draft, and due to covid only played 15 games. Late birth day so if he went back to Kamloops this season he would've been an overaged player.

Only partially related to this thread, but for players who were 16-18 when the Pandemic first took hold, I wonder if a lot of these guys have been hindered pretty harshly by this.
Given how many picks in this draft got traded, I wonder if NHL teams who had hoped that 2022 draft would be better are maybe a bit disappointed with how some of these draft eligible players are looking this year. Having lost some pretty significant development over the past 2 years I do wonder if it's set some Junior aged guys in Canada back.
Hopefully for a guy like Zary who missed time, and now was injured he can get himself back on track next year. Wheras a guy like Coronato has had two full seasons these past two years. With 7 years until these guys are UFA, players who need 3-4 years after the draft and 3 pro years to be ready don't have the value to teams they once did. Hopefully one more year and Coronato can go pro, and by the second year of his ELC he's in the NHL.
