Come again? From the moment he was drafted I didn't think Giordano was anything more than an asset to be moved at the deadline. It was the same with players like Eberle and Jarnkrok. It was obvious heading into tbe season that Seattle was a bottom-five lottery team.

Good fit for TO and will be nice to see Gio get some time in the spotlight.

Agreed there on him being trade bait, but why make a short term asset the captain? That's the part that seems odd to me.

If so, who knows if Seattle would have ended up taking Kylington then. So I'm ok with it.

They did us a favour . Took his full cap hit off the books . Also our d corps got younger and tougher to play against . I say it worked out great for the flames.

I'm not 100% sure on the Gio thing. There wouldve been a lot of conversation around him leaving Calgary for the opportunity, but probably talks about going elsewhere too and signing an extrension too. So for him to go there there would've been strong consideration to see him signing there after this year.

If Seattle saw him instantly as deadline fodder I am not so sure they would've made him captain.

I thought that was all about establishing culture, identity and selling tickets. The Seattle fanbase was pretty excited about having an instant face of the franchise, but I am not convinced that this was ever part of a long-term plan by management. NHL letters are easily one of the most over-rated and ultimately meaningless aspects of team-building.

I don't see why not. NHL Captains get moved pretty frequently, and the optics of making one of the League's longest tenured, former Norris Trophy-winning perennial All Star the team's first captain made excellent marketing sense. It also potentially bolstered his trade value, for all we know.

Seattle was stupid for taking gio in the first place.

You are trying to build a team for the future and you take a guy a couple of years from retirement.

I like Gio, always have. You don’t build a team around a defenseman that has lost a step and will retire soon.

They should of taken Kylington. 15 years younger and now playing top line minutes in Calgary.

They will get assets for Gio, and have to wait to see if those assets years later ever play a game in the nhl.

Very interested to see the return. My guess is a second round pick or multiple picks that would equate to a near first.

I am happy for Gio, playing with Brodie will definitely help the leafs.
