Over a decade difference age wise...Flames are not paying a first to move one year of Monahan
They will likely buy him out rather than trade extra assets to move him. It doesn't make sense to pay someone to take Monahan at this point. If they decide to trade Monahan they can do so by retaining $2M in the final year of his deal and get assets back. Someone will happily take Monahan at around $4M for a year, even if they flip him at the deadline next season. If they decide to move Monahan this year, they can do the exact same thing. Retain 32% (the same as the buyout value) and he becomes very tradeable.

seems reasonable...I can also see Monahan packaged with an asset for something they actually want
The Quest stands upon the edge of a knife. Stray but a little, and it will fail, to the ruin of all. Yet hope remains while the Company is true. Go Flames Go!
It would be a little over the top to have gio as the #7 defenseman but depth is good I guess. The only way I see the Flames getting gio is if they're trading one of their D for a forward.

I wouldn't do that. I think people are giving up much too early on Vali.
It will cost us to convince a team to take on Monahan’s contract and that cost could be a prospect like Valimaki though I do agree the jury is still out on him. If we can free up capspace ahead of next year I can see the reasoning behind this trade proposal from Vinny.
