But who knows how good the team would be with a new player? We know how good the team is with Johnny and Tkachuk as the best players. It's really good.
Why change the plan just because you think something might be better?
I hope if we acquire Chiarot, Pelletier is not involved. But IMO we do have to keep up with Colorado in some respects.

The whole purpose of moving Tkachuk to get a decent replacement yes, but also to be able to sign the rest of the roster. Only way we get Tarasenko is if St.Louis is willing to retain 50%. I highly doubt they are. If they would then that would be a good move.

Are you trying to make the team worse?

Dear Ken Holland. Ben Chairot is exactly what your team needs to put it over the top. Swoop in and get him before anyone else can!

Bourgeault + pick for Chiarot is a perfect trade.

I'm not against picking up another defenseman - hell, I'm all for it - because you can never have too many during the playoffs.
My issue with it is that I think we need a forward more. And I don't think we have the cap space for both.
Given the choice, I would much rather add a middle-6 forward

And so you thought you would up the offer?
I don't think that's how negotiations are supposed to work

It's a buyer's market on D this year, zero chance Chiarot gets Pelletier.

Taking a while to get to 5000

If the Flames want rentals, and they want both a forward and defenseman, they can get what they want so long as they are truly prepared to go "all in" and spend 2023 picks and/or a top prospect like Pelletier. If they want to package someone like Monahan on the way out they'll end up paying even more.
Thats the fun of going all in. You can leave with nothing. They could spend the picks, lose a top prospect and get bounced in round 1.

Flames GM Treliving ahead of trade deadline: 'We’re certainly looking to add to our roster'

“We’re certainly a team that’s looking to add to our roster, not take off it, so you’re the one who has to be a little more proactive because people aren’t coming for your players,” said Treliving.

Bringing Pelletier up to play would have a more positive impact on the team than trading for Chariot.
You’re taking a good defender out of the lineup to play Chariot. You’re taking a plug forward out to inject Pelletier into the lineup.

What about 1st 2023 + Monahan for Giroux?
Solves allot of off season problems as well as helps go for it this year.

I think it’s been publicly stated that Giroux would not waive to come to Calgary.

Philly wouldn't do it even if Giroux waived. Prevents them from signing him back next year.
The value of Giroux is likely a 1st+. They may retain, but they won't take a large non-expiring contract back, because they don't have to. They would just keep him before they did that.

I also don't know why people aren't hearing that it's widely believed Giroux won't come to a Canadian team.
Giroux is a non starter for the Flames. It ain't happening.
