If Oilers keep oiling as only the Oilers can oil then the Canucks... kind of have their own destiny in their hands? Vegas looks like a hot mess and the Canucks play them three times before the season is done.

I've said it many times, the Canucks aren't making the play-offs. I've said that because the math to a wild card spot just did not make sense and in my mind for this team to make the play-offs it would be in a wild card spot.

But now? It's still super unlikely but that third Pacific spot is actually in play. Certainly more in play than a wild card spot. Like, with the math, there is actually a possibility the Canucks are in 3rd place of the pacific as early as next weekend. Giving up games in hand, but on raw points they're in there. It's certainly a lot harder to temper excitement than it was even two weeks ago. I'm the Larry David gif on what to do at the trade deadline. If they sold high and got a huge haul on guys? That's good but this group deserves a chance so if they stand pat? That's good too. Just as long as they're not out there shopping for rentals.

Yeah, 3rd in the division is the only real possibility. And as a long-standing Nuck hater, I have to say that it would be awesome to see your boys pass the Oil and the Knights, leaving them on the outside looking in!

Also, if you do pull that off, you get LAK in the first round - probably the easiest opponent in the playoffs (other than yourselves )

To bump the knights out would be even sweeter than the Oilers. They're cap circumventing asses can taste true failure for the first time.

Edit - also the ten year symmetry of an underperforming Canucks team heating up and sneaking into the play-offs vs an over-achieving Kings team is not lost on me.

But every single time the player is fine and plays on the PP - and especially if they score - the defending team whines that they shouldn't have been on the ice.
If they are hit in the head they are supposed to be pulled by the spotter for tests. It's different than a stick in the nose or a trip ect.

I think you're seriously underrating the Kings. The other California teams were clearly frauds that were doomed to lose their top 3 spots when they had them; the Kings have been legitimately good all season.

The worst teams in the playoffs are the Blues and Rangers, but I'll buy that Shesterkin can cover the faults of the Rangers until he stops doing so.

I agree that the Kings are legit. However, of the 3 teams you mentioned, I would definitely prefer to play LA.

It's kid of a weird year where there are 8 good teams in the east, and maybe 6 good teams in the west - much more than most years. So even being one of the weakest teams isn't really an insult.

That was a good night, it was 75% good with the Wild and Canucks each getting just 1 point.
