Correct. I'm suggesting it happens in offseason and it's next trade deadline he can be flipped by new team. Not this trade deadline.

Add to the room without breaking it. Monahan has truly accepted every role he has been put in. He may not be what he was but he's a true show of buying in.

I love this kind of deal. Similar to Lindholm, Josi, Jarnkrok, Batherson, etc.
Just doing a complete gamble and committing very long term to someone who has hardly proven themselves or has yet to reach the next level.

Many of the aforementioned contracts are among the best of the past decade.
It could backfire, but the there is a chance that the contract could be a steal.

Even if Kotkaniemi doesn't progress, which is unlikely, it's not a terrible deal.

We'll see if it gets done.

The other good thing about locking in at this young age is you have the out of a 1/3 buyout if it really goes sideways. Obviously you don't plan on that, but it at least plays into the risk assessment.

all the more reason why the Flames should be in on Hertl.

If you go back and look at Darryl’s teams in LA they were stacked down the middle. Kopitar-Carter-Richards-Stoll.

The Flames need another centre. Hertl is that man (unless he gets re-signed, then it becomes someone else!)
