I went to school for a few years in Marda Loop kind of thing and they also had those sirens there. I think it was due to the proximity to Currie Barracks?
Anyone remember the air raid sirens that were once dispersed around Calgary?
There used to be some in Brentwood when I was young. One down on north mount drive across from the 7-11. I feel like they we taken down in the late 80’s or early 90’s?

Yeah, I remember driving by one all the time near the corner of Canyon Meadows Drive and Acadia Drive all the time when I was a kid. Looked exactly like that picture.
If Canada has learned anything from this, if we don't want to spend on defense, we should load up on tractors.
I know you say it in jest, but considering two of the worlds biggest agricultural producers are at war, we may want to do that anyway as I have a feeling our agricultural products will be in high demand around the world. Sending wheat to developing countries may end up being be our most impactful humanitarian offering this decade.

I always remember the one in Haysboro near Heritage Park - we could see when driving by on 14 Street.
By some miracle, wife and her 2 companions got on a train to Ternopil. East of Lviv. Going by what's on the https://liveuamap.com/ map, it appears relatively calm....I hope. Can't find anything on the news about it what's happening there. Never heard of the place or what they will expect when they arrive. Seems like a lot of students have evacuated to that location.
I've been thinking about you, your wife and her family a lot over the last week. I'm so happy to hear she's on a train and hopefully on her way to safety. Yours and kn's perspectives are eye-opening and valuable in this whole thing. Keep us posted and let us know if there's anything we can do as an online community to help.

People need to stop visiting Russia for the time being. It is not a free state , consider it like China. That poor woman will be held there for a long time

Like I said...i have no idea what the curriculum was in Social Studies after the cold war ended. But good stuff that it was covered even if its not any longer.
I was merely saying that the very large population still around who lived it in real time have a very different perspective on nuclear war vs those who came along after.
Part of Calgary even had an evacuation drill called Operation Lifesaver.
