Same intonation every time.

I actually don't mind him, but that thing bugs me.
I turn off CBC as soon as Q comes on these days. I was never super interested in it with Ghomeshi at the helm but I'd at least give it a chance.

Just to clarify, I certainly don't think he should be back at Q or CBC if he acquitted.

Sarah Polley hopes her Jian Ghomeshi essay speaks for ‘women who choose not to come forward’

Take this as an opinion : I know women who have dealt with Ghomeshi, and what I hear is that he woos a woman and then beats her when things get more intimate. That follows exactly what Sarah Polley is saying, and the source that I have, I trust.

This guy is a POS.

Six years later and I still cannot believe how badly this case was botched.

Is there anybody who wants to hear what he has to say? Does he have fans? He seems like he built his career more from support within CBC, than an actual fanbase. Some people might know his as the guy from Moxy Fruvous?

I suspect the majority of his fans were women, and he kind of burned that to the ground.

In my observations you are correct. I was at a conference where he was one of they keynotes and the women were all so excited to hear him speak. At that point I had never heard of him.

Yeeeeep. The biggest Jian Ghomeshi fan I knew was a woman; coincidentally, the same age as Sarah Polley. She was a dedicated listener to Q, loved Ghomeshi going back to his days with Moxy Fruvous. She thought he was super attractive, articulate, and one of the best interviewers in the media. She was over the moon when Ghomeshi started following her on Twitter about 12 years ago. (And I bit my tongue and didn't speak my mind when I thought, "Yeah, he 'follows' you 'cause you're a dedicated fan with D-cups and a twitter feed full of photos of you doing yoga poses in the mountains...")

Honestly though, with respect to his skills as an interviewer, I agreed. I thought he was a great interviewer, and I also regularly listened to Q.

I kind of drifted away from the show (and, for unrelated reasons, that big fan of his) a couple of years before the abuse allegations came out. By that time I had long since not had any contact with that former female acquaintance, but I wondered how she felt knowing now that Ghomeshi was actually a manipulative, violent son-of-a-*****...

Been a big fan of Marie Henein ever since though. Super smart legal mind.

We all knew guys like Ghomeshi in university, didn’t we? Passionately dedicated to all of the righteous causes, a tireless advocate of women - who he’s constantly surrounded by. And yet to other guys clearly a sleaze-ball working an angle.

By accounts I’ve read of Ghomeshi, that’s who he was at university and with the CBC. Despite being in a prominent band, he had virtually no buddies. The women who he later abused made the same observation - they found it odd that he had no male friends.

What was the major issue again? One of the actresses from Trailer Park Boys got caught with some emails suggesting they make up or embellish some events to really get him or something?

It's been awhile since I've followed this.

Going off my somewhat foggy memory, the crown/police didn't do their due diligence in investigating the accusations. They got caught looking unprepared multiple times over the course of the trial. The first two witnesses were caught with emails to Jian Ghomeshi that indicated what had happened was consensual and communications with one another that weren't exactly a good look. Even though the third witness was credible, by the time this got to the judge it was so muddled I don't think there was any choice but to come to the conclusion that they did.

Jian Ghomeshi likely crossed the line, and did so more than once. Just going off the number of anonymous complains that came out, and the stuff that came out about people who worked with him at the CBC it's hard to assume his innocence. But the crown not doing some of the most basic pre-trial prep sunk this.

She is impressive. And she’s been a passionate defender of the presumption of innocence and free expression.

Here she talks about being disinvited from speaking engagements.

Quote:
So, you’re disinviting me because you don’t like the job that I do in the justice system? What does that say about what you think of our justice system as a school? That’s extraordinary to me. What does it say about the wrongful convictions that have happened so many times in Canada, and certainly in the United States? Who do you think is standing there? What does it say about the lawyers that are standing beside victims? They’re defence lawyers; they’re not prosecutors. We represent a range of people: some you like, some you don’t like.

But to disinvite someone because you feel that a high school or university student can’t bear a discussion about the justice system, and what a defence lawyer’s role is, is something out of Brave New World. We don’t need our intake of information constantly curated and censored. It’s so outrageous and it’s so uninformed. And it’s from people who are supposed to be educated. It’s uneducated, and it’s unnecessary.

This is actually my number one piece of dating advice for my female friends. If the dude doesn't have at least a couple of close male friends, solid chance he's a piece of ####.

I suspect the same holds true for women as well. The worst partners I've dated are the ones who didn't have their own close-knit group of female friends.

Oh oh, glad I'm not in the dating pool!
