This is my first From Software game and WOW is it PUNISHING.

I've only played for about an hour in and have levelled up a couple of times, found the first map and the Ashes of War... felt like I was getting the hang of it, went through Stormgate and was pretty much dead immediately. Went back and started beating up on weaker enemies to level up, all of a sudden what looked like a dragon started chasing me, turned to run... dead immediately.

This game sure doesn't hold your hand.. I have no idea what I'm doing or where I'm going most of the time.

My recommendation for any beginner to these games (or maybe anyone in general) is to level up your vigor first until probably 20ish. Having health is really key for the early game especially. Lets you make more mistakes.

Yeah - I keep running away and feeding my horse the raisins to get its health filled up, unless this guy is one shotting my horse

Or maybe I am somehow pressing L3 accidentally at the worst moment LOL

I think it consumes a potion if you resummon your horse if it dies, so you should be able to tell if that's what's happening.

Of course on PC that's hold down E and then use one of the arrow keys after taking your hand off the mouse to summon/unsummon the horse so I guess that makes it harder to do by accident on PC lol.

What year is it?

I put 50 hours into Elden Ring since release at 10pm Thursday, the game is amazing and keeps me hooked by just checking out one more place or one more try on the boss. It’s not as punishing as other souls games but there is still a bunch of stuff the game doesn’t seem to tell you that new players to the series would just get completely lost about. Playing Samaurai and I’m a little sad with the lack of weapons and armor for it, I’m getting so many cool spellcaster and strength weapons but luckily you can respec later in the game so I can always change it up. 50 hours and I put myself at about just over half way complete I think.

I LOVE Souls games, so this is right up my alley - played for hours last night, and was just exploring - haven't even fought a boss yet.

Did try to take out the mounted boss right at the start, got him down to 1/2 more hits left, but my horse just keeps randomly disappearing which really screws me

So I Picked Elden Ring up for XSX... What class would you guys recommend for a beginner to From games?

I personally think a strength build is the easiest for beginners. Your core stats would be strength, then vigor and endurance. You can just pump those stats up instead of worrying too much about combining or mixing/matching. Second, a pure strength build helps you focus on only healing versus healing and magic management. You'll just be a big bruiser character with lots of health which allows you to make mistakes in fights and not get one shot. You could pick a Vagabond or Hero to start possibly.

I started out as a Vagabond due to higher health and a shield that'll reduce physical damage by 100%.

I may restart as an Astrologer though as staying away from the guys swinging at me seems like a good idea so far.

Anyone playing Elden Ring on PC with a minimum specs rig?

I've been tempted to get it, don't have any recent gen consoles other than a Switch, and have heard the PC port is underwhelming/buggy (even in this thread). As my gaming rig's 7yrs old, it's actually a bit below the minimum "required" specs, so not sure I want to pair that with a rough port of the game... haha.

Restarted as a Samurai, now about 25 hours in and have beaten 2 main bosses, almost the entire map is unlocked, I’m just riding around like a fool killing what I can and running from what I can’t exploring and finding stuff.

Got bloodfang early and am absolutely wrecking everything with it, nice dex build greatsword. I’ve come across one optional boss fight so far that I stand no chance against yet

I started as a Vagabond since I read it was beginner friendly, but I always like magic classes in these kinds of games so I restarted as a Confessor

I'm still early in the game and haven't put any stats into strenth or dex, but I think I'm more interested in going with a dex/faith build

Every weapon I've found so far need upgraded strength and dex to use so I'm still using the beginning sword, but after pouring almost all my stats into vigor and endurance I think I'll start going for the more specialized upgrades now

Hah I totally missed the gold summon outside of the room I was fighting in. Just needed someone to draw some aggro. Suck it difficult enemy.

What in the world! It takes me a month to finish a call of duty campaign

I rarely do this but stayed up all night playing Thursday then just played as much as I could all weekend because I knew I wouldn't get that much time after that. Now I just hop in and try and get something completed with the time I have, wish I could have actually just took a week off and played I'm really enjoying it.

I started using the Golden Halberd weapon from the very first Tree Sentinel boss and holy hell is it ever strong. I love two handing huge tank weapons.

Elden Ring is my first Souls game, and I am loving it. I usually scale the difficulty back so I can experience the story in other RPG-type games, but this is such a different experience as the story is pretty non-linear. I have been fed my lunch by so many different bosses, it is so frustrating but somehow awesome at the same time.

Absolutely gorgeous game, I'm loving the map design and all the enemy designs too. Watched a tips/tricks video last night that helped quite a bit, I can already tell the depth is going to be insane and I will be sinking a lot of time into this.

Started as a confessor as I had no idea what any of the classes were and it looked cool. Looks like I can do a tanky paladin-type build which works for me as I suck at doing spells in video games and mostly stick to melee.

Can't wait to go home and play!

Started a game last night as a Vagabond. Did the tutorial dungeon. Decided to try to kill the first NPC I saw even after he gave me a couple warnings. Wasn't a good idea. He killed me numerous times. Decided to run away from him hoping he might forget about me but he chased me down. Eventually got away and killed a couple small dragon type things and some stealth kills on some soldiers. Still dying lots but so much fun. Can't wait to play more

I know everyone, including myself will be locked in to Elden Ring for the foreseeable future but Guardians of the Galaxy will be coming to Game Pass March 10.
