Now obviously we don't know who exactly is running the lockeroom. Who's getting everyone fired up.

But based on what i have seen and what I like to see in captains. That is, a fired up, talented, bleeds the colours beast on the ice, who's vocal on the bench and defends his team. Coupled with tenure and a somewhat level head.

I'd argue for Backlund or Tkachuk. They have the talent pedigree and voice for sure and are very open with the Media, which is a requirement for the captain. I dont want to see another meek, mild mannered, fades away Giordano type as captain.

I just don't think Tkachuk is captain material. I think if you put the C on him it actually takes away from his game. It's too much responsibility and, to be honest, the refs already don't like him.

Backlund or Tanev would be my 1st choices.

I thought you were just supposed to give it to your best prospect before he even plays a game.

Let's go?

What are you talking about? That was never Gio's reputation as a captain.

I would be ok with Tanev but would choose Lindy. Backlund would be a bad choice, he is a guy we should be looking to move out come the offseason along with Monahan.

Team will need to find a 2nd line C but other than that would be fine. That is the position the team will need to address this offseason. Maybe you hold onto Backlund for one more year if you have to but that is at the most. You don't want to name a guy Captain who won't be here long term, is really not that vocal, and takes half a year off every season.

Not advocating for Bucklund as captain at all, just see him as a lifetime Flame. Half the season off? Yeah probably but'd be a PPG player if he played the whole year. He's typically always good in his own end despite his offensive shortcomings.

Monahan + Lucic gone this summer to clear up money, not 23 and 11. IMO

I can’t find a way to embed the video, but the presser yesterday with Tanev and Toffoli brought up Lindholm at 3:50 mark, where Tanev says he’s been the best player since he arrived. Toffoli probably has the least amount of insight with this team compared to the others who have been here longer than a week, but he does say “having him as our leader is incredible”

Personally, I would give the C to Tkachuk right before the final game of the regular season. Let this team go into the playoffs with its obvious leader becoming its official leader.

At this point I’d give it to Johnny if he re-signs. He’s really changed his game and composure, and I think he’d be a better liaison with officials than Chucky would.

Why introduce a new variable such as that at the most critical time?
Clearly what they have now is working. Don't mess with it.
Re-visit in the off-season.

I don't think captaincy should be a condition of contract negotiations.

I agree with this. However, I think the post just meant that after he extends, give it to him. If he doesn’t obviously he’s not an option.

That all said, I would have never thought of JG as Captain material and now I’d be all over that. I don’t think Chuckie has the proper rep with the officials.

The other choice would be Tanev IMO.

If we are being honest we know who the captain is.
And he doesn't wear a jersey.

Well, it would be difficult to name Johnny captain if he's playing somewhere else

Well that's different
Yes to be the captain he has to re-sign
which is different from "if you re-sign we will make you the captain"

I'm not sure getting the "C" would factor much into Johnny's thought process, if at all.

On the other hand, I could see it being a bit of a perk as part of Tkachuk multi-year extension. Keith wore the C, Brady has the C in Ottawa, and I'm sure Matthew has thought about the possibility of him wearing the C in Calgary.
