Lewis has been fantastic, and is not in need of an upgrade. He is a great penalty killer, and plays a smart and heavy game.
Not all players score goals, there are other roles on a team and Lewis fills his role very well.

I agree, Lewis, is probably a lock in the lineup. I think Dube and Ruzicka are the two most likely to come out of the lineup but like Sutter says that is up to them. Can’t see Calgary making a deal until closer to the deadline once the see how consistent those two can be and the impact of Toffoli.
I also think over the next 15 or so games Monahan will become the big X factor, he has really gained strides on the defensive side of the puck and in face offs. If he continues playing consistently with Dube and Toffoli and that gets him going, it maybe the extra impact player we get at the deadline and I am still optimistic that can happen.

My Mother in Law just read in the Sun from some columnist that Giordano coming back is a possibility. I laughed and said I just don't see it, the club as moved on etc.
Then a thought occurred to me.
What if, BEFORE the trade deadline, the team saw a major injury to one of Hanaffin, Kjillington or Zadorov? A "season ending injury" before the deadline. Wouldn't Sutter and Treliving reconsider a Giordano trade?
Just if...

You forgot to “knock on wood” lol. I think if Calgary is going to have any success, health is going to be key. As much as I would like Gio back in for a Flames Playoff run I think it is even more important to keep this lineup intact as much as possible with maybe sprinkling some depth in.

For what it's worth I wouldn't trade Wolf for a late 1st round pick. Not all 1sts are created equal but this guy has done nothing but prove he's a top prospect.
Long way to go and odds are always against a goalie prospect but he looks good.

Flames minus Kylington plus Giordano = last year's team

Hey, if the Flames could manage to find another productive (goals and asists) winger to bump Ritchie down the depth chart, I'm all for it.
Don't know if it's some waiver wire fodder or just a simple depth trade on deadline day I don't know.
As far as I am concerned they should sink or swim with their D corps and depth as is. They have 4 players capable of rising to the occasion in Mackey, Kinvall, Valimaki and Stone.
Even if you aren't sold on them, that's plenty of bodies.
What the Flames don't need IMO, is to gamble offensive production from the bottom 6 by not having Ritchie as the 2nd or 3rd option to suit up in a cup run.
Maybe someone like Pelletier can come in in a pinch and surprise. But I'd be a lot more c9nfident with one more fw piece added to the roster.

Yeah, I don't think we want to mess around too much with a good thing. Adding Toffoli was perfect because it only cost one roster player that wasn't playing or fitting it well, and Toffoli had a lot of connections to the current roster and coaches. It was a very low risk move when it came to chemistry.
But when people start talking about moving out guys like Monahan, Lucic, and Zadarov, I think you have to consider how much those moves might affect chemistry and team morale despite how much those players make.

Totally agree! He always takes the hit on the dump ins and they are not half ass hits. Perfect attitude for a 4th line guy. Going to wear down defenders if a series goes long.
Also I wouldn't say he is without his offensive instincts as well!

Even the D-Core is greatly bolstered by Rasmus Andersson stepping up and being the guy back there.

I saw an article that suggested Parise as a cheap depth option and I didn’t realize he was at league min this year. Apparently his underlying numbers have looked good on a mediocre NYI team so it’s an intriguing thought.
Gaudreau - Lindholm - Tkachuk
Mangiapane - Backlund - Coleman
Parise - Monahan - Toffoli
Lucic - Dube - Lewis
Ruzicka, Richardson
https://www.google.ca/amp/s/eyesonis...fvt75r5hjm/amp
Quote:
What makes Parise the "best player" on the team isn't his production but his consistent effort. On a team that seems to fade in and out of games, the one constant is Parise. Forechecking, back-checking, creating scoring opportunities, breaking up opportunities in the D-zone, smart plays through the neutral zone.
All of that was perfectly on display in Calgary on Saturday night. The veteran was easily the Islanders best player on the ice. It wasn't even close. And that's been the case for just about every game this year.
And while that's excellent and obviously great value to get from a league-minimum deal, it's a problem that Parise is the team's best player for just that reason. Parise wasn't brought in to lead this team, he was brought in to add to this group. To be a complimentary piece.

But if Gio comes back, do those guys take a step back? It would change the whole dynamic of the team. Does he come back and become the new leader? Do the young guys see it as management not having faith in them? Does it disrupt the pairings? Does it build resentment?
IMO there's a better chance of it ruining things than improving them and should only be considered as a last resort. That's a Hail Mary I hope they don't try.

Yes, of the guys brought in this offseason, Lewis has shown the most occasional offensive instinct. A couple nice plays on shorties and the play with Tkachuk on a brief power play. He’s one of those intelligent players that might score more if he wasn’t so responsible.

2nd Leafs game in a row a Flames Hockey ops person's been scouting them according to the Fourth period..
Wonder who they're after in T.O

They’ve been shopping Dermott since last season, and I think it was Seravalli that claimed that “they are making in-roads” in regards to trading Ritchie. Hope it would be something better than either of those guys…

Gio would be one of many possible options, but he'd be well down the list for me (for the leadership/chemistry reasons).
Nick Leddy would be the golden ticket for me given his PO experience, but only worth the price if we lost Hanifin before TDL.
I think Vali/mackey would be fine to replace either OK or Zadorov. If Hanifin goes down it means betting on Zadorov(with Andersson), which as we've seen is a high-risk/high-reward bet. It would be nice to have a veteran hand to hedge that Zadorov bet.
I think the best play would be to wait right until the deadline and pick up any remaining scraps . If we strike out, so be it.
