Yeah, that's what you do in specific sections of 18k arenas to attract the college/young crowd. You don't do that in a 3200 seat arena if you're a professional sports team in one of the 4 major sports.

If it actually happens and they can pack it every game, I can see it becoming a favourite for visiting teams to play in. Imagine the uniqueness of playing in an arena that reminds guys of places they played in on their way up in their career.
Or it'll completely suck and Coyotes still won't be able to put people in the seats.

I would actually love to go to a game there if this happens. Imagine watching the Flames in that arena?
I fear the mistake they will make is "We have 11000 ticket buyers a night so therefore we'll just gouge the most willing 3200 of that 11000 and get a sellout every night".
The reality may be that a lot of those 11000 are on discounted tickets or just aren't willing to pay any more than what they pay in Glendale, and the only thing more embarrassing than an NHL team playing in a 3200 seat practice arena would be any non sellouts. And if your plan is $250/ticket, you may very well see that.

I'm absolutely going to multiple games down there.

Yep, I think their ambitious pricing (if true) will make bank on Canadian games along with a handful of American teams. But playing already hot climates that won't see an Arizona hockey game as a destination (LA, Anaheim, San Jose etc)?

Tickets on the secondary market will be really expensive.
With the Tempe arena still up for debate, this seems absurd.

Gee, you'd think that Alex Meruelo would have a good feeling about it before dropping $25 million up front on an annex that he is basically donating to ASU..
Tempe plan or plan B or C.
The Coyotes are never leaving Arizona, that's pretty obvious. This would've been the time to do it.

I'd think players would dislike it, as the locker room facilities will suck compared to what they're used to.

Now that they are in the CEN it only means 8 home dates vs. CAD teams (1 ea except 2 vs. WPG). COL and maybe MIN/STL is the most you could bank on travel-wise.
Personally, I'd rather go to an AHL game in Palm Springs.

Maybe wait until May or June to take your victory lap.
What are plan B or C?

The big question is when is construction on the dressing room annex supposed to start, and is there an out clause for the Coyotes if they decide to pull out if construction hasn't started yet (as we've seen here, that can be important)?

Presumably they just wouldn't pay their bills. Isn't that their MO when they get into a disagreement?

The Coyotes are being required to pay up front for anything they ask for. If they pull out, it's lost money to the Coyotes, not ASU.

Yeah, but what I'm saying is, are they 100% committed to that now (i.e. have they already cut the cheque to ASU), or is there a back-out date where they can walk away without spending anything if construction on the annex hasn't started yet?
As we saw in Calgary, two months ago, we all thought the haggling and wrangling was over and we were waiting for a groundbreaking... then, that changed.

I have little faith, but the team actions speak otherwise. I've said countless times that I think it's a 2/10 chance a new arena happens but they keep progressing with things on the team end to prove otherwise.
I just don't listen to the Canadian media - locally they're making the right moves

The money has been wired the day of the ASU/Coyotes press conference a couple of days ago.

I may have missed it but when will we know about the Tempe arena? I would say if that falls through they are done in the desert. It's fine to play at the ASU arena for a couple years but without a solid plan to leave to a regular NHL size facility I can't see them staying there long

I've been wondering where the PA was in all this. Finally, some information courtesy TSN Insider Trading... https://www.tsn.ca/insider-trading-h...ller-1.1761190

Earlier this week, they rolled out video of the Arizona Coyotes’ new 5,000 seat arena that’s still under construction. It was pretty sad to think about an NHL team calling that home, even temporarily. Now the Players’ Association is voicing some concerns about it?
Johnston – As if there isn’t enough to talk about between the league and the Players’ Association, another item on their agenda is what happens with hockey-related revenue and who covers potential losses with the Coyotes going to a 5,000 seat arena. It’s a little early in those talks to forecast where exactly it ends up, but at this point in time the players are worried that they are going to have to foot half the bill if the Coyotes do lower their HRR number and that’s something they’re working through with the NHL.

I think every time a visiting player plays there, they feel their pockets get a little lighter as their HRR portion continues to plummet
