Yeah, that would be a different story. Not great Defensive metrics but thrown to the wolves with tough matchups on a garbage team.

Do the Flames really need another D? We have Stone as the 7th. And then the farms looking alright too. Never was a big fan of Chiarot so I'm glad that's done with.

So that only leaves one name if they want term, Jacob Chychrun?

I don't know cause I'm comfortable with any of Stone, Valimakj or Mackey drawing in if needed.
We're fine. We're more than fine.

Unless they're trading Valimaki and a cap hit off of their roster, I don't know if there's much of a fit for another depth D man. I really don't think they need to be tinkering with the D corps right now.
Good news is they have a long ways to go until deadline day to decide these things.
Just happy about today's events.

I like that Toffoli is here now. Give it the month to see if Monahan and Dube can be revived, either with him or with whoever drops down, and if they still suck then there’s time to make a big splash on a big C. Dump the entire futures on a guy who can threaten to be Lindholm or better.
If Toffoli is the right piece, and the bottom six starts working again then Monahan and Dube might have more value when you then trade everything for a great C at the deadline.
It’s really a no lose deal as long as Toffoli doesn’t turn into Brouwer/Neal V3.

I was watching Oilers/islanders last week and thought although a total long shot, Chara would be such an awesome addition at the deadline for us.

From a GM's perspective, you can guarantee they will pick somebody up with some experience, despite the fact that most fans would be happy standing pat.
Does Gio help with experience? Probably not, as he's only played 23 games, and his performance in the playoffs has been spotty at best. Sounds like there could be a bidding war too, driving up the price to aquire to him.
Whoever lands Klingberg (it won't be us) will be getting a beast-he has 30 points in his last 39 playoff games (he has 34pts in 52 games overall).

This was my thoughts on depth on D. I don't think it's a big need, but we all know there will be some kind of trade to bring in playoff experience on D. Not sure where they will slot in, or who might be sacrificed.

And just to put a grain of salt on the rumour, it is coming from an Avs reporter and not a Philly reporter. So I could see this story making the rounds in an attempt to get the Avs to up their offer when really Giroux will only waive for the Avs.
"Oh you better make sure this deal works, or we are definitely sending Giroux to your division rival!"

He's huge, at 6'3" 230lbs, throws his weight around, and moves the puck well. He's capable in the offensive zone, and owns a bomb of a shot. He wins battles in the corner and in front of the net, and is a top shot-blocker. If we pick him up, hopefully he displaces Zadorov and not Kylington-but he's a Sutter player for sure.

My thoughts on Chiarot.

Not sure what the fancy stats say about Chariot this season, but every time I've watched him play this season (not a ton) he's been a tire fire. Not in a big rush to trade for him at all, especially if rumors about Montreal asking about a 1st rounder for him.....woof.

Probably a 2nd round pick and an ok prospect?
Can't see it being much more than that, but you never know.

Jarnkrok would be cool to have for sure. It would be sad to see him walk in the offseason because he's a guy I'd want sticking around.
As far as depth acquisitions go, I think the Staals, either Eric or Marc or both, would add a lot of experience, size and leadership. Marc might cost a mid pick.

I think the flames could use a depth forward more than a depth Dman

Serivali mentioned the Flames were in on Hagel in Chicago prior to the Toffoli deal
