I'd be tempted to give him a pass if he gets one of Johnny or Chucky signed long term.

My preference would be Johnny and a reasonable return for Chucky.

Get two of the three (Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Mangiapane) signed, and the third traded for a good return that restocks the cupboards, and Tre will earn back the Wizard status.

This is my bet. I think JG resigns, Mang signs, and Tkachuk is dealt at the draft.

Chucky has grown on me a lot this season, especially in the last 3 weeks. But he is also IMO the most likely to walk, so yeah, he’s the guy to deal if it comes to it. Question - do you qualify him and then deal or do it before? I guess it makes no difference because the acquirer has to do the same unless they are convinced he can be signed for long term at less cap.

That's my bet too.
No basis for it. But I think that's what goes down.

Treliving on with Pat just now

"We will move Heaven and Earth to get those players signed" in reference to the "elite level" players that need contracts this summer.

Thats good to hear. Hopefully those 2 players realize they could have something special here for a while if they dont ask for Heaven and Earth.

Is Monahan heaven and earth? Or is Backlund?

I am actually thinking Tkachuk signs a 5 year deal while johnny goes 8 years.

Mangiapane I think gets traded for a 1st and a top prospect. I'd miss him, but keeping that top line together is key

I've been thinking today about how Brad has been bringing in exactly the sort of player that Darryl needs to play his system. At first I thought it was a new approach for Treliving, and a nice step in the right direction. Thinking about it some more, I think this has maybe always been his MO.

GG stupidly and stubbornly tried to convert Brodie to a LD and probably was asking for another top 4 RD. Treliving tried to help that by trading for Hamonic, which was one of his worst mistakes. It seems highly likely that he brought in Ryan for Peters. Could these same bad coaches have been involved in the bad decisions to bring in Brouwer and Neal?

What if Treliving's biggest failings are an inability to identify a good coach and being too eager to fill voids these bad coaches create or embiggen in their lineups? Darryl basically solves both of those problems at once.

Maybe I'm overvaluing this Toffoli deal and it will end up blowing up in everyone's face, but for today at least, it sure seems like Treliving has turned the corner.

Whether this trade works out or not, it’s 100% a good move by Treliving IMO. Addresses a clear need with a quality player. Shades of the Jokinen acquisition at the deadline in 2009.

I keep saying it, Treliving's biggest weakness was his coaching hires.

Of course, that's a pretty damn big weakness and probably cost this team 4-5 years of legit contention.

His coaching hires made the team look like it was blow-up worthy FFS

Hopefully he can get Gaudreau and Tkachuk extended so this year isn't a one hit wonder.

Get rid of Monahans contract and pretty much split that between Gaudreau and Tkachuk around ten mill each somewhere.

But still seems impossible to keep Mangiapane with signing Kylington unless we run a Mackey/Valimaki third pairing while filling out the rest of the roster.

It's been mentioned elsewhere that once Lucic's signing bonus is paid, his base salary for the year is only $1,000,000 (and Edmonton is paying part of that). I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up in Arizona this summer, which would create a lot of wiggle room.

Hopefully he wins a cup with his buddy Toffoli before he gets banished to the Coyotes.

His list of teams he can be traded to expands to 10 this off season, but if he doesn't want to go anywhere he can certainly engineer that list to make himself an unmovable object if he wants.

I voted that Brad should not and will not be fired. I just wanted to post a "Thanks" to Brad for sticking with his vision and building us a team that could put together a "record" season. Also, want to thank him for bringing in Sutter for the "unfinished" business, that was the best answer and need for this team.

Lets make some noise in the post season and then let the Wizard keep this ship steaming next year with his magic signings in the offseason.

I don’t think Sutter was a Treliving hire
